I have used NVidia graphics cards in my machine since God was a boy. Attempts to use AMD and Intel graphics built into processors/motherboards have never worked for me because I have been unable to get them to resume from sleep properly. I use cards with passive cooling (no fan) and I have exactly zero problems with them. I currently use a GT 710 on a card from MSI.

I'm trialling a passive GT 710 just now, after using an AMD 5450 for years. The AMD card was great in Windows 7, but isn't properly supported in Windows 10 and keeps turning off its vector adaptive deinterlacing for reasons unknown. So far the GT card has been ok(ish) - 23.976 Hz is closer to 23.971 Hz, and any attempts to set up custom resolutions for it have failed. Video also shows noticeable stutter whenever NPVR displays overlay graphics, but then runs smooth again once they disappear. And if I have inverse telecine turned on, then the scrolling ticker bar on BBC News HD will stutter and/or stop deinterlacing every minute or so.

But despite these very minor issues, it's still better than the on-board Intel.

TBH, if it wasn't for running Netflix at 1080p, I'd be back with Windows 7.
