Hello,

I'm preparing to build a PC that will not be the main GBPVR recording server, but will stream Live and Recorded shows to it. I'm already doing this with older hardware, but this machine will be new and used more. I've picked out a barebone kit and the only concern I have is the onboard video. I know onboard video has usually been low end in the past, so I just want to ask around to see if this onboard chip should be able to keep up with HD OTA at a res 1080.
The shared memory concerns me, but the FSB will be running at 1066 or 1333.
The throughput of the chip seems to be good to. Link below.
Anyone else using this chip?

FYI, this is the barebone kit. It does not have PCIe, so the onboard video is the best option. There is a higher end Shuttle with PCIe that I can choose should I need it but I'll have to determine this before purchase Smile

That onboard video is still consider low-end but I reckon it can display 1920x1080. Heck, even old graphics cards can handle greater than 1080p resolutions easily. You just don't get hardware video acceleration so you'll need a wee bit of processing power for MPEG2 video decoding and deinterlacing. The good news is even a Pentium Dual-Core E2180 is more than enough for the job. I'd go with a Pentium Dual-Core E5200 or Core 2 Duo E7200, though, if the motherboard supports it.

I don't have the KPC K45, but I do have an ECS 945GCT-M/1333 which uses the same chipset. Paired with a Celeron 430, I remember I can just barely watch OTA HD 1080i using MPC HomeCinema (Windows XP 32-bit). I'll try watching on it again later.

g945 looks great if you use EVR...[in xp] [even 1080i] plays smoothly for me at least..

Just tested watching Smallville (1080i MPEG2) in overlay mode using MPC HomeCinema's built-in codec (GB-PVR was not installed). It was pretty good even on fast action scenes. CPU usage hovered between 55~80%. That's with a Celeron 430 + ECS 945GCT-M/1333 + Kingston 2x1GB DDR2 667. The PC is connected to a 19" LCD monitor with 1280 x 960 resolution. This is on Windows XP 32-bit. Personally, I wouldn't even bother trying the same with Vista.
