Why does the current latest release of Nextpvr announce that it cant find directx 9.0 if its compatible with windows 10? It should be using the updated directx for windows 10 shouldn't it?

Many thanks for your comment.

NextPVR's UI is developed against DirectX 9, so that it's compatible all the way back to XP. You can install the DirectX9 runtime alongside the version of DirectX included in Win10. Unfortunately Microsoft made every version of DirectX incompatible with the others, so a DirectX 9 app wont be able to automatically use DirectX 11 etc.

That said, it's not strictly needed. If DirectX9 is available, it'll give you some subtle animations transitioning betweens. Without it, everything will still work, but without those animations. ie, you can quite happily continue to use the app without installing the DirectX 9 runtime.

While sub is probably correct that the runtime isn't absolutely needed (he wrote the software), I can recall many instances in the support forum here where the UI behaved strangely until the user installed it. So yes, it's not supposed to be needed, but not having it has proved unwise.

I'm not aware of any issues with not having it. I'm happy to look into anything that can be pointed out.

well, admittedly I haven't seen any reports for awhile. it used to be things like the horizontal scrolling menu wouldn't update correctly so you'd appear to have Recordings selected, but when you hit Enter you'd get Videos, that sort of thing. Maybe you've fixed everything that actually didn't work right, but remember that it wasn't for nothing that you put in the warning about not having the DirectX runtime...

I'm assuming that would have been fixed a long time ago - there is a pile of people using machines without the directx runtime, and we'd be hearing a lot about that.

Thanks. I tried to install directx 9 but windows 10 home with "all updates applied" reported 9 as incompatible software and it refused to install it. My question would be: Would the the load on the CPU/computer be less if I had Directx 9 installed? If so I will pursue the idea of installing it some more.

No - the only difference is you only get animations in the menus when directx is available. CPU usage is pretty much same with or without it.

This only effects moving around in the menus anyway - video playback or recording etc don't use directx.

The full version here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download...px?id=8109 installs fine on Windows 10. Installing it is a little different, you have to type an extract location, then after it extracts go to that location and double-click DXSETUP.exe. The web installer and redistributable installer *should* act the same, but they often don't.
