Frequent "Failed to Lock a Signal" errors

System has two brand new dual tuner HDHomeruns (the ones that produce .ts files). As a test last night I recorded dozens of show. About 10% of the recordings failed with "No errors, but no data delivered...".
In the latest software from SiliconDust, ATSC/Other is no longer an option so it is set to NextPVR. Multiple tuners and stations get this error. The signal strengths of the channels are all excellent. The failure below is a station that's just a couple miles away and has 100% signal strength.

Any suggestions?

Try setting it to mediaportal. The "nextpvr" option can cause issue if any overlaps occur on the tuner, like when two recordings are back to back on the same tuner, with padding in both.

I have since tried 'MediaPortal' and 'Windows Media Center' without improvement. Trying 'Default' today. I am doing exactly the scenario you mentioned: all 4 tuners recording back to back shows with overlap.

If it was what I was thinking, then the 'mediaportal' option would have fixed it. No need to try selecting the other main application setting.

I'm not really sure what else it might be. That was the other known issue that could account for the behaviour you describe.

You'll probably have to try catching it while one of these zero byte recordings are happening, and run up the HDHR Config utility to check if the tuner is tuned to the correct frequency, how the signal strength is, and what data rate is being sent.

Does everything work fine with the HDHomeRun View program/app (depending upon OS)?

Did you reboot your system? Some time I find these type of changes do not take unless you do a reboot.

I'm not really sure what else it might be. That was the other known issue that could account for the behaviour you describe.

This message seems wrong and different from the NextPVR source problem, maybe a driver problem

The issue goes away if I change the BDA Compatibility Mode setting to "Default" instead of NextPVR or any other setting. With previous versions of the HDHomerun setup software, you had to set it to ATSC/Other instead of NextPVR but that option went away.
