Hi, I'm new to nextpvr and loving it and it's integration with kodi - just want to say thanks for all your hardwork up front. One thing I'm trying to figure out is if there's a way I can set nextpvr to update the epg automatically more frequently. I am in the northeast of USA and have been using over the air info to update my EPG. It works well for my purposes except I've noticed some channels update the epg for a couple days ahead, others only 6 hours or so. So I'm wondering if there's a way to set auto-updates every 6hrs or so, instead of once a day. From a little searching I'm guessing I'd have to create an UpdateEPG.bat file somehow? I'm not a programmer or anything, just an amateur, but usually I can figure these things out with a little assistance. Thanks for any help!

It costs a cup of coffee a month to get much better and more complete EPG data from Schedule Direct. Try their trial and see.

NextPVR will automatically update the EPG once per day. There is nothing in NextPVR that will update the EPG more (or less) than once per day.

NextPVR is primarily about recording shows (e.g. this channel every Thursday at 9 pm) and this scheduling does not work well with EPG updates every six hours.

But if you must, there are command line options: http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...ineOptions

One of them is -updateepgonly.

So you can open a command prompt and do "nextpvr.exe -updateepgonly".

So you can make a batch file (called "pleaseupdatemyepg.bat" or whatever) that contains that line and when you execute that batch file, it will update your epg.

So you can make a scheduled task that does that four times a day.

Just make sure you're not actually using nextpvr when it happens. (Good luck with that.)

As Martin said, Schedules Direct is the way to go if you've got the interwebs.

In the US, OTA EPG data, for practical purposes, is worthless. Do your self a favor and subscribe to Schedule Direct (SD). You can try the free EPG route, but that has it's own issues.

Auto EPG update is limited 1 per day. However, there is nothing stopping you from running a manual EPG update from the Settings | Channels window. It's just that must OTA stations have 4-6 hours of information. There fore you will be doing a manual update 3-4 times a day.

Maybe this will change with ASTC 3.0, but I am not expecting to see that implemented till next decade.

Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for. After searching around I actually found the answer just before I saw your post. So I just scheduled a task - "c:\Program Files (x86)\NPVR\NextPvr.exe" -updateepgonly and I set it to run in the afternoon. I have NextPVR set to update the EPG in the morning. It's only a few stations that only give around 6-10 hours, so updating twice a day is enough for me. I don't record anything overnight. what's the problem if the task runs while NextPVR is already running or recording? so far it seems to work fine, the same as if i hit manual update. I'll definitely try the free trial of schedules direct but I'm happy with this current method and don't have much interest in another bill even if it is very small.

Thanks Everybody!

NextPVR needs a tuner to download the OTA EPG - it may throw you out of live TV or interfere with a recording while it's running...

It is strongly recommended not to update the EPG during a recording or live TV. Also Kodi has trouble syncing the guide data as it and you won't be able to schedule recordings in Kodi while they are out of sync. They sync when Kodi starts up and on a configured interval. The minimum 15 minutes will be disruptive to Kodi too.

Thanks, I'll test it out. I have a quad tuner so hopefully not an issue.
