Thanks Sub,

Let me check the forum (I think I saw something about log submission) so I can get the right stuff to you.

I ran a very short record session. I've attached two zipped folders.

1. is all the documents in the users\public\npvr\logs folder. " NPVR log folder.zip "
2. is a text file that popped up in the recordings folder. " text doc found in recording folder.zip "

To my limited brain power, it looks like something is surely amiss Smile

To generate those files I shut down everything including the recording engine. The restarted the engine, started NextPVR. Opened channels and started a normal record for that channel. Then after a minute or so, shut down the program and the recording engine and zipped all the pertinent files I found.

The logs generally look ok - no sign of any errors. Next I'd fire up the HDHomeRun config or web app, and check it thinks the signal is locked, and streaming to the correct IP address.

I opened up the HDHR config wizard and the first thing I noticed was that it changed from Nextpvr to Windows Media thing. I know I originally had it set to NPR. So reset it to NextPVR and re-scanned the channels. I took a look at my channel list and all was fine there .. all the major / minor and main figures were correct. At that point while still in the config, I opened up a few channels with VLC and they all played fine.

You'll have to help me with the check for locked signal and IP address. Don't know how to do that. By the way, I'm set for "digital" instead of CableCard. I think that is correct.

I found the item that was being blocked by my firewall. It was something in the NextPVR program folder. I "un-blocked" everything and suddenly I had video. I'll have to go back in and sort through them to find out which one was causing the problem. But at least I now have video.

I have a second problem in that I have no audio during playback or when watching live. However I CAN do a recording and then play that recording with a 3rd party media player, great video and audio. But the same recording being played within NextPvr doesn't have audio.

I've tried about 4 different audio codecs without any success. It's curious that the closed caption audio stream works. At least I can watch the shows with closed captioning turned on .. just no audio.

Is it the same playing a recording? If so, and you can supply a short sample recording, I'll check it here.

NPVR is actually recording all programs perfectly. But

With NPVR:
Watching TV Live .. no audio
Playing back a recording .. no audio

With any other media player:
The recording does have audio when I use any other media player to play it.

Other note: when I open up the windows audio mixer and start to watch NPVR live OR any NPVR recording (using only NPVR) I can see NPVR pop up in the audio mixer properties as a play back device, but looking at a sound level meter the audio levels are zero. I've attached a short clip although I'm pretty sure the problem is not the recording. Don't know if this will help, but I also DO have working subtitles. So if I can't "hear" the audio, at least I can read it. Smile

I checked that recording here, and I've got audio in NextPVR. It'll just come down to the AC-3 audio decoder you have selected. I tried both the 'LAV Audio Decoder' and the 'Microsoft DTV-DVD Audio Decoder'. Both worked well.

I've got MS DTV-DVD, LAV, and ffdshow codecs all installed. Tried them all. No joy. VLC tells me the codec information is Codec: A52 Audio (aka AC3) (a52), Sample rate is 48000 Hz and a bit rate of 384 kb/s. And of course the sound is fine. It all looks like standard stuff to me. I'll try using one of the codecs that has a lot of configuration options. Maybe I can tweak it to make it work.

Ah we have joy at last ! I removed all the codecs and installed the Windows 7 Codec Pack. Then enabled the LAV codec in NextPvr and we now have audio. There must have been something set wrong or some kind of anomaly occurring with the codecs I originally installed. Thanks, Sub for hanging with me on this and getting me close to the problem. Now all I need to do is set up my main computer as a client. I plan to run the HTPC as a dedicated "headless" server with no monitor or keyboard or mouse. I'll access it remotely for maintenance and will use it to stream all it's content to other computers.

Thanks again for the help.
