What are the rules NPVR uses to determine if it can use Series and Episode information?
i.e. which part of the EPG data is checked for SxxExx data?

What format must the SxxExx be in? (i.e. are S01E01 or S1E1 or S01 E01 valid?)

I ask because I have "avoid duplicates if possible" ticked and some recurring recordings aren't getting scheduled although they are not duplicates and there is no unique program ID in the OTA EPG data.
There is however a S9E03 in the programme description but it's not getting used for the file name (and that file name option is ticked too).

Just trying to understand why it decides a programme is a duplicate when it's not.

It really depends where your guide data is coming from. Schedules Direct, and some xmltv files directly list this info.

For the DVB EPG, there is no formal place for this information, so they often just include as part of the show description. Unfortunately different broadcasters seem to use different formats. The app has a few regular expressions it'll use to try to identify and extract these from show descriptions, in the few formats I've encountered.

Yes, all of those should be found. Also some others like:

ep1:8/s1
ep1/s1
ep1
ep 1:8/s1
ep 1/s1
ep 1

If you want to do an 'update epg' then post the logs, and let use know the name/time of a show you think should have been scheduled, I'll check why it wasn't.

As the recording was missing recording was rescheduled manually and recorded ok, an updated EPG/fresh logs won't help us.

A typical description for the programme in question would be:-

"999: What's Your Emergency? takes a frank and intimate look at modern Britain through the eyes of the police. (S9 Ep5)"

The S9 Ep5 in the description wasn't translated into a filename with series/episode instead of the usual time format name.

The week's prior episode S9 Ep3 was the one that didn't get scheduled because the log shows...."...already got this episode: New: 999: What's Your Emergency?/69561/004 (recently deleted)"

The "recently deleted" episode was S9 Ep2.

What I am trying to understand is how NPVR thought the two episodes were the same (i.e. got the same derived ID)

The history shows up as:-

"2019-06-23 04:35:35.788 [DEBUG][10] - recently deleted episode : New: 999: What's Your Emergency?/69561/004
2019-06-23 04:35:35.788 [DEBUG][10] - recently deleted episode : New: 999: What's Your Emergency?/69561/004"

I do notice every entry appears twice in the deleted history log (and database).

Ray.

It looks like your show in the database as a unique id of "New: 999: What's Your Emergency?/69561/004" (ie, this one isn't season/episode related). The last bit of that is the 'crid' which is the unique identifier supplied by the broadcaster with the EPG. The log messages indicate you've recently deleted this episode. (according to the broadcasters unique identifier)

You can run "nextpvr.exe -removehistory" if want it to forget recently deleted shows. This should let you record it.
