Ok so I have been using NextPVR to do DVR and love it. intel nuc with nextpvr also watches tv... but I am using an HD Homerun Prime box. Works SUPERB!!!!
now in June (so I have time) my current xfinity package ends.
all ch, HBO, Showtime, Skinnimax, Stars, Sports pack, Internet Blast (200mb which I get up to 278mb!!!) for $165/m. Once this is done in June I will be paying about $320-$360 but of course I wouldn't keep it. it was a promo hence why I got it. I would drop many channels HOWEVER.. my neighbor turned me on with HD OTA then the Hauppauge quad tuner card here turned me on ever more..
so I mounted my DIY Antenna today... following this antenna build - http://www.popularmechanics.com/culture/...v-antenna/
on 1st floor I get 46 channels and no ch6
on 2nd floor I get 57 channels and no ch6
mounted to attic stud I get 71 channels AND ch6!!!!! albeit not the clearest and does get blocky a bit but maybe I buy a real antenna and see if it does better. a powered one.
None the less the biggie was for me to get a cable ran from basement to attic. so the hard part is done.
now my quandary
my current setup doing my DVR/MCEBuddy/convert and move to Plex is as follows...
HP 8200 Elite Small Form Factor
Windows 10 pro
I7-2600
16gb ram
Western Digital Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s
I can use that OR I have a new machine I could use..
it is dual cpu capable and only has 1 now but an easy ebay purchase (not expensive) would get me 2x6 core xeon cpus
so I could use
Lenovo C30 Small Form Factor
Windows 10 Pro
Intel Xeon E5-2620
16gb Ram
Samsung 128gb SSD
Western Digital Black 2tb
so either of these would work and would get the tuner which I expect to order soon..
but looking for what machine you would run...
fyi..
Passmark puts the i7 ahead.. but of a single xeon.. your thoughts?
