First I have to say THANK YOU for the whole NPVR solution I am so grateful for your efforts. I also know the Android app is fairly new and hasn't reached maturity yet, but I thought I would take a minute and provide some issues and feedback to help make it better as it matures.

If you use the app then come back the next day (having left the app open) on an Android TV type box, the App will usually have disconnected from the NPVR backend server and you have to go back to the Server Select page and manually reconnect. This manual reconnect process usually allows it to reconnect and play but doesn't always download updated EPG data. Sometimes, the only way to get it to reconnect and download the updated EPG data is to force close the app and reopen it. It would be nice if anytime you changed tabs (between Channels, Guide, Recordings, etc.) if the app would check the connection and auto-reconnect and update data if needed (like if it has been more than X hours since it updated).

If you manually reconnect as mentioned above and then go to the Guide page, it remembers it does not move to the current day/time. It will either show the last time you looked at (which could be yesterday) OR sometimes will will update to midnight of the current day. When moving to the Guide page it should always check the current time and center on that.

When switching to the Channels tab it should update whats on to the current day/time. Right now this page only seems to update when I disconnect and reconnect to the back end. Today I restarted the app at 1:15PM and it properly listed the shows that were on at that time. Now it is 2:55pm and that page is still listing shows that ENDED at 2:00pm instead of what is on now.

There may be more later, but this would be a good start.

I've fixed this one for the next build. If you leave it on the Channels tab, every 30 seconds or so, it's checking if any of the currently visible listings are in the past. If so, it'll reload the current show.

Still looking at the other aspects of this post

This is good news. I will be looking forward to that fix.

I have one thing to add on the Guide page. Even when the Guide does open showing the current Day/Time the blue selector box does not. This can be easily replicated. Open the Guide to the current Time, then move the cursor/selector box several hours back or forward. Then go to another tab and come back to the guide tab. The guide will be re-centered on the current time, but the selector box will still be where you left it. This is fine on touch devices, but can be an issue on remote controlled non-touch devices when the last time you used the cursor was a day before.

Sounding really dumb vut were do I find the "Server Select page" that Maverick referrs to above.

I see a client link.

What is driving me nuts is one minute the client sees the server and the next nothing and I cannot get it to work.

If this is the fix then please tell me how to find this "Server Select page" page.

Thank,

David

From the Channels screen press the back button on a remote. There isn't much to this page but it is slightly tricky to navigate because nothing gets highlighted as you move the invisible cursor. When you land on this page press the up button on the remote one time then press the Select button to open the Add Server dialog window.

Maverick,

Thanks for the info.

I have messed with Emby, Plex and now NextPVR for the better part of 3 weeks.

Emby was a nightmare with now help from their staff or forum.

Plex is frustrating because I have a Nvidia Shield and you cannot install the Webtools on a Nvidia and that is where the Plex apps are I need to run IPTV.

NextPVR is by far the easiest to install, setting up the EPG is tedious and I cannot get any of the bat files or windows to auto update the EPG daily, but hope springs eternal. The line is as corny as all get out.

I have NextPVR server installed on my Win 10 server in my basement. Problem is I cannot find out why the NextPVR client will not see the server no matter what I try. I even got my son to come over and he is the System Admin for a govt agency here in town and he cannot find out what is going on with the client not seeing the server.

I now have NextPVR server installed on a laptop here in our family room that my Nvidia box can see and connect to.

The NextPVR is light years ahead of everything else, I know because I have looked at, installed and lost my mind for 3 weeks trying everything I can find to date.

I am not a programmer but I am amazed that the owners of NextPVR do not rewrite, if possible, the server to run on a Nvidia, firestick, android or anything used to look at IPTV.

The other item that needs fixed, if possible, the EPG. Pick something and make it stupid simple to install and update.

NextPVR records good quality vids, records series and is very easy to use, once you get it setup.

I am tired of paying $150 a month for cable and are trying to become a cord cutter, LOL.

There are plenty of apks and Kodi to watch all the channels, tv and movies to your hearts desire, but a DVD type recorder for IPTV is limited to just a hand full and most don't work, impossible to install, and none that I have looked at record series.

The owners of NextPVR could become very rich by just putting some more refinements into their product and they will own the market. At least until someone copies their code.

Any ways sorry for being long winded and thanks again for the info.

What exactly was causing you issues with the EPG setup? If it's the EPG that came from your IPTV provider, then really they're probably the only people that can do anything to improve the situation for you.

Great - good to hear you like it.

I'm only one guy, and this stuff is time consuming. There is not enough hours in the day.

The reality is, it needs several EPG solutions, depending on the type of user, and the country they're in, and where they get their TV from.

For most users it's already dead simple. ie, in most of the world, with a digital tuner, it'll automatically pull in a week or so of listings at a time without you ever having to change any settings etc.

Honestly, there is next to no money in this stuff, so it's hard to justify commiting huge numbers of hours to stuff. Very few people ever donate. My Android apps sells for only $6.99, and reviews just say it's way overpriced. People are cheap and want everything for free, or they'll look for somewhere else - they don't consider the development time and cost required to run a project like this.
