Tell us how you are recording. IPTV or cable TV tuner? If the latter, NPVR can't record any copy protected streams from cable TV. The cost to get the certification for that is around $150,000. This includes pretty much all of the premium movie channels.
The only software I'm aware of that has ever been able to record copy protected content was Windows Media Center. Microsoft had paid for the certification, paid for the annual licensing costs, and the software stored files on your hard drive in encrypted form so that they couldn't be copied or used anywhere else. Unfortunately, Microsoft stopped supporting it.

The hdpvr is still a good option in Canada for reliable premium channel recording because we don't have any Cable Card or clear QAM options and MCE was never an option for us
