Sorry, I'm a bit of a newb at this. Where do I place the xmltv file, and how do I name it?

I don't have my HDPVR working on Windows but if it is like other devices when you get the scan option for the HDVPR do you get an option to add an XMLTV file?
If so use whatever path and name you want for this file (maybe try C:\Users\Public\NPVR-data\hdvr.xml) and enter that when prompted by the web server. Martin

I just tried Sub's suggestion from another post about upgrading from v4 to v5: https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?tid=60894 Now, my HDPVR is showing up in the EPG (with no data). I am able to select the channel using the Windows client app.

Surprisingly that suggestion was to you.

If you're not wanting channels, or guide data etc, then it doesn't sound very well suited to what you're trying to do. You'd probably just be better of with Hauppauge Capture, which lets you open the device to a specific source, and hit record.

It's just nice to have everything in one place. Also, I have never been able to get consistent results with Hauppauge Capture, it seems to be more resource hungry than NPVR.

I was having issues with network access from clients other than localhost. I reinstalled NPVR, but then lost all of my settings, (I know...backup). So, I set up everything from scratch. I was able to add a fake channel for my HDPVR, using the example posted by @mvallevand, and it works.
