I want to focus more on a Kodi clients setting page on the wiki and less on responding to posts now that the stable release is close.

I can live with telling users to turn it off that mistake won't happen often, I was thinking about the bigger pain of having SD users find it rather then post that it is missing. Perhaps moving the setting to the Guide page with a recommendation would help them notice it and stop accidental clicks too

If it's unticked in NextPVR, does that also hide the new indicator in Kodi?

I could look into enabling the setting automatically the first time a user adds a Schedules Direct lineup.

For an SD user, having it enabled is probably the best behaviour. For xmltv or dvb-epg, having it disabled is the best behaviour. (that small subset of xmltv users that get this type info can always enable it manually.

Isn't that actually on the EPG load?  Both Emby and Kodi trust what comes from the API, and I don't see the API controlled by the tick.

Would it be possible to search all of the EPG events and see if any are marked as new, then determine the default behavior based upon that?

That's why I think the tick enables new in the database so that new only and record all work the same.

The <ShowNewInGuide> setting, which is controlled by the tick box, only controls whether the 'new' indicator is shown in the guide page. It doesn't change anything about the data in the database, or what is returned from listings apis.

In Kodi do they give you any control over what is show? ie, do they let you set 'new' 'not-new' and 'unknown', or just 'new' or 'not-new' (with no 'unknown' state)?
