Irritating Sound Problem!

About once a week playback via NextPVR New Client on Kodi the sound defaults to NAR so have to pause and change it back to English. It does seem to be a small subset of channels that do this. Then yesterday the sound disappeared in the middle of the adverts caused by a switch to the NAR stream which was not being broadcast! In general stream 1 is NAR and 2 is English but not always. A review of about 20 Recordings found one in NAR mode. I am unsure if “Set as default for all media” is supposed to set audio to “Eng” or to stream (2).

knewc doesn't control the audio playback, it is just tells Kodi to play this file. In theory (which you'd need to confirm) you'd get the same result using the Kodi video library. I can have a look at that NAR mode sample if you'd like to see if it worth the effort for you raise an issue on the Kodi github.

In UI client you might be able to change Alt-G in Kodi to not open the audio settings windows and to change the audio track if you edit emulate.py and change xbmc.executebuiltin('ActivateWindow(osdaudiosettings)') to xbmc.executebuiltin('Action( AudioNextLanguage)')

As it seemed to be a Kodi problem it seemed that the Kodi area was to best place to post!

Yesterday I found another recording with problem sound recorded about a week ago. The original problem was that occasionally a recording had no sound or defaulted to Audio Description so had to switch sound from NAR to English in audio settings. The two most recent problem recordings have been slightly different as sound is normal when playback starts in the 3 minute pre padding. However the instant the programme being recorded starts the sound disappears. The end of the previous programme is single stream English 1/1 as is the bit between programmes. The instant the programme being recorded starts the sound goes. Checking the audio settings is now two streams and it has defaulted to Audio Description 2/2. The odd thing is that "Toggle Audio Stream" is of little use as both streams 1/2 and 2/2 both display as "Eng" and neither show as the "Nar" stream! This was done using the NextPVR New Client but the same thing happens if I install the NextPVR Kodi Client! Both the recent problem recordings were from the BBC so perhaps someone setup the sound system incorrectly!!

I will watch out for any more recordings with sound problems!!

I understand that it is a Kodi problem, but this top level forum is really for support of pvr.nextpvr If you have Kodi questions you can ask them on the Kodi forum or better, as I previously suggested, open a github issue if you really hope for a solution. You won't get support here since pvr.nextpvr and knewc don't control playback.

It took a while to realise that most but not all of the sound problems were on a x86 box. The two RPi3 boxes were running the latest version of LibreElec as a clean install as update is disabled but the x86 was version was an update. A clean install of LibreElec on the x86 box which is the main playback box seems to have cured the problem  and as yet not seen the problem with sound switching to "Audio Description" mode!
