just a quick question about channel merge, auto and/or single
how does it know what one the play? does it just systematically go thought the list how it was added?
what happens if say first channel sauce is offline does it auto swap to the next one?

On the Settings->Devices page, you can see the order of the devices. For a recording, it makes it's way from the top of the list down. For a live tv, it makes it's way from the bottom of the list up. It'll use the first available device it finds with the requested channel. Those rules also apply to merged channels, which is available from multiple sources.

what happens if say first channel sauce is offline does it auto swap to the next one?

Yes, for recordings it can work that way, where it can have a second go at starting a recording if the first source was unavailable. It doesn't generally do that with Live TV - it'll try the first source (in priority order) where it should work, and if it fails, it fails.

If a channel source is set to disabled, or marked as 'unavailable' (like USB tv tuner unplugged at last device scan), or already in use for some other channel, then it will use this info to make choices about whether to use the source, or go straight to another source.
