I have NextPVR setup with 2 tuners installed and configured. I can record 2 TV channels at the one time, so I know all is working.

What I am trying to do is use NextPVR as a backend to Channels DVR. Channels DVR only supports HDHomerun devices and I want to use the Hauppauge tunnel I have as well to add extra tuners.

I know I could just use the NextPVR client but the family does not like change and they are used to Channels DVR, makes my life easier.  Channels DVR also has some nice features.

Channels DVR supports m3u streams, so I have added http://localhost:8866/service?method=channel.m3u to my config. This works and I can watch TV on Channels DVR via NextPVR.

The issue is that I can only seem to be able to use a single m3u stream at a time. If I try and start watching another channel with Channels DVR the first one will stop and the second will start.

I know Channels DVR supports this as I first tried with TVHeadend (had issues with Linux drivers and tuner) and could watch 2 channels at the same time.

So is it possible for NextPVR to provide mutilple m3u streams up to the number of tuners installed.

It is possible using manual files. I don't like supporting commercial applications, are you planning on donating to use NextPVR? There would be no EPG export though.

If you are using the non subscription version of their app not sure what features make it superior, there is no PC client as one example. If you have the subscription I am quite curious what features make it worth $80 a year extra. They do provide a quality product and have an excellent technical resource team but managing two backend has limitations too.

Thanks Martin for your reply. I get it you do not want to support a commercial app with NextPVR being a free app. Just trying to get the best outcome.

I have the EPG covered so that is not an issue.

I have the subscription. For $80 a year I get (apologise in advance if NextPVR has the same features. New to this app).

1. commercial skipping out of the box
2. Lots more options to schedule recordings. There are lots of conditions I can add. NextPVR looks to be lacking here.
3. All my clients are apple products, apple tv, iPad, Mac etc. Clients are available for all. Even runs on my Amazon Firestick. I am using windows as the backend as it has better tuner support. Oh and on windows live tv and recordings can be watched via the web portal.
4. Find the client interface easier to use.
5. My family know how to use it. This should be no 1 Smile

HDHomerun tuners are not cheap so if this saves me some $ happy to donate some $

As I posted Channels DVR is a very nice product aesthetically and technically, I am thinking more managing two servers.

1 comskip is actually quite easy to install

2. NextPVR has pretty good scheduling and with advanced rules can pretty much automate anything. Channels probably uses TMS data (which is Schedules Direct data and NextPVR does support it too) but sub hasn't done any fancy filtering that TMS data could pretty. I would be most interested in here what common searches you find lacking.

3. NextPVR supports all the Channels client platforms too plus Roku. Channels has more servers

4. My feeling is that many applications aren't as well designed for the 10' interface as NextPVR.exe and the UI clients that share this design. This is why I don't consider a web player a true client for the living room, beyond casual casting and Air Play.

5. I do believe users can change, Channels could easily change the UI too. The Word I use today is not the same as the first one I used (for better or worse I probably use help more now than ever) Sometime a UI designed for a tablet or phone doesn't work as well on the large screen from a TV box/stick.

For the m3u I couldn't find it via a search but you need to add the &client=clientID to each URL to make them appear they are not coming from the same user, typically a VLC users. Some suggestions include making the channel number the clientID and that can make sense for using NextPVR's multirec to get multiple streams from one frequency
