I was doing some testing and i noticed that when I have 3 TV's tuned to the same channel lets say a sports broadcast, NextPVR generates 3 seperate files in the temporary storage location for playback.  I thought that it detected that if i channel was already tuned, it would just play the same file stream (i hope this correct terminology) to save on system/disk resources.  Is this possible?

I maybe remembering this from back in when serverwmc worked with windows 7, but I could be mistaken.

That's the way it works. Each session is using their own buffer file.

It'll only be using a single tuner though.

Doesn't the number tuners used for Live TV actually depend on your config.xml settings and if the device supports multi-rec?

Yes, but most devices support multi-rec these days.

The reason I was asking is, because I noticed TV's being out of sync and was investigating what the issue could be. My Network is really strong over Ethernet with NVIDIA Sheilds so this where I ended up. The temp files play over SMB I assume but I dunno. Just wanted every TV to be in sync. Recordings have never been an issue, this is will only for watching a live sporting event. I understand if not possible, thanks though.

Even if they'd been using the same buffer file, they'd almost certainly not be in sync. They'd be playing different bits of the files (even if they were all very close to the live point)

Right I was think of recording and watching Live TV which does potentially use two tuners.

Does IPTV support multi-rec now?

@JohnySmith1010 even if you play two stream from on HDHR directly they are a tiny bit out of sync. There is an interesting project here https://github.com/Syncplay/syncplay and maybe yauiclient could support it be it seems like too much effort.

Thank you for this.  Yeah have 2 HDHR 4K homeruns, but still, my dumb logic states that if a channel is already playing live, why start another file and why not just continue to play from existing.  That's all.... logic got in the way and I'm sure you the NextPVR has their own reasons, such as pausing, rewinding etc etc.

Yeah I think so, but with IPTV you've likely got even more channels, and even less likelihood of clients people wanting to be on the same channel at the same time, so of limited value there. (unlike digital tuners, with potentially a pile of channels on the same frequencies)

I just tried Live TV IPTV with max connections 1 and I couldn't play the same channel so maybe not.  It look like two sockets are opened to the source.

The OP was specifically talking sports in sync so typically that would be the same game.
