I would truly do that if there was the slightest part of me that would believe that would make a difference, but theres no tuner drivers at play here, no hardware transcoding. None of my other VMs have any issues like this, all with the same version of debian. If Sub doesn't have any idea whats causing this or can't reproduce this, ill bite the expensive bullet and try ChannelsDVR -

Last post before i fall asleep (2:10am here)

Memory usage is still steadily increasing at a rate of ~50MB/ minute. This is while a recording is being watching using UIClient on an android tv. Conveniently that works out to 6.6Mbps which is the average bitrate of a steam here. Me thinks that for some reason the currently watched show is being put into memory and never removed. Can someone please see if im the only one with this issue.

if you notice my screenshot was like 12GB in HTOP but it has never been an issue, have you noticed anything other than the htop number. Running on many small boxes has never been a issue either

Sure try ChannelsDVR.

Here is 2 UI clients plus one live stream and it is not growing (using H to combine them) which is why I suggested 2Gb it doesn't keep growing.

Yes, when the memory reach's that 5.7GB limit, browsing menus in the UIclient slows to a crawl - when it first happened I looked at the vm and realized it has used all 2GB, so i gave it 6GB and i ate all of that too at which point i looked at htop.

Nevertheless, even if it didn't cause an issue, NPVR shouldn't be eating your system memory for no reason - if this wasn't virtualized it would have eventually eaten the 64GB of system memory, meaning that the ZFS ARC would be gone (ZFS gives up the ARC in system memory for other processes) majorly affecting IO performance which then affects the other processes and also shortening the life of the SSD's because of the swap usage - its quite a silly statement to infer that its just a number

I don't want to try ChannelsDVR, Sub has clearly put a lot of effort into NPVR and it has lots of great functions like keyword recording and the ability to find a replacement recording if one failed for some reason. I feel forced too because on windows i would get the random crashs that despite logs, i never really got an answer or suggestion. I migrate to linux thinking maybe it was a windows issue then im getting memory leaks.

I believe you were the one who made the script to install on debian. Could you please try setting up a test system, making a recording, playback that recording using a uiclient and observe the memory usage? It might just be a me problem, but who knows. If you get it too then atleast Sub knows theres an issue.

Sorry if it came off ranty, im tired.

Good night.

Interesting that it still eats 2GB, but clearly this is a localized issue. ill try a reinstall tomorrow.

I'll check in a Linux environment a bit later.

My "production" box, used by my family is running 6.1.5.231022 on Windows, with 2 UI clients accessing it lots each day, and it's been nearly 2 months since I restarted it, and it's still working great. I checked its memory out of curiosity, and it's using 495MB. This seems entirely reasonable.

You're probably going to need to try doing some tests to help us work out when the memory is increasing. ie, does it need uiclient connected, or does a tuner need to be in use, or recording, etc.

UI clients do take much more memory in bursts than other clients. Using thumbnail for UI clients also take more memory. You would need to see how much you like Channels DVR, Kodi is also an option, if memory is your focus.

LibSkiaSharp will also crash perhaps more on Linux than Windows so a Windows machine there is no way I could use UI clients for months without a server restart, Linux up time can be months
