Hi,

I have noticed a trend where if I was busy doing a scheduled PVR and the stream is lost or going offline, the PVR doesn't seem to know what to do at the end of the allotted streaming time and just keeps on recording until the signal / stream comes back online.

I noted this happening on new scheduled items where the stream was offline / no signal when the recording starts and I also noted this behavior when the stream is cut / disconnected mid recording.
Any ideas on how this issue can be resolved, so that the recording stays within the allotted time. The EPG still has the correct time showing, it is just the stream that is offline.

When it comes to a proper physical tuner attached to your machine, it'll try to record for the entire time a show is intended to air. If the signal is only available for part of that show, then you get the bit that was available.

IPTV is similar, in that it'll retry if the stream goes missing etc, but it'll often only retry a certain number of times before give up.

Ultimately if your signal / stream is crappy, there is only so much NextPVR. It can't magic the show out of nowhere.

I kind of get what the OP is talking about looking that the log from the 19th. That recording will be a mess. GIGO though a new provider makes more sense.

As I understand, the issue is not that you don't get the whole show, but that the recording keeps on going forever. I don't know if it is related, but when I use an extra that runs streamlink, I get this exact issue, if the stream drops out for some reason, when I check the next morning (10 hours later) on the NextPVR web page, it still shows that the show is recording. More importantly, it actually stops any other show recordings from starting, even though my max connections for this device is set to 30. I also notice via "ps -ef" that the streamlink process is still running on the system. The only fix is to restart the NextPVR service.

I had put it down to that fact that the process doesn't die when the stream is interrupted, and I'm really not sure if that is a streamlink issue, or even a behavior, but I can't blame NextPVR for that, since I assume it expects the process to terminate once the recording is done.

I'm not sure that what the OP is seeing is actually the fault of NextPVR if it's the same issue.

I would treat that as a different issue, but without logs there is no problem. I suspect it is how your Extra is handling a broken pipe. There is also a bug with thumbs and timing files that lock the recordings service and that logic doesn't handle bad streams well.
