Hi.  I have a trusty 2nd gen I5 running Windows 10 on an old Asus PH877 motherboard.  Microsoft says this is done once Windows 11 comes along and I dont want to run unsupported OS.  Also the HDMI port on this way back in time.  The box is only used for Nextpvr and playing things like Netflix, Prime, Disney, Youtube etc. No gaming.

So my question is what is the minimum hardware requirement for a PC platform today for NextPVR and these streamers?  I was thinking it needs to run Windows 11, have an HDMI 2.1 port able to do 4kUHD at 30Hz and of course support at least 1 Hauppauge 2 tuner USB stick without hiccupping. I dont have any real preference for AMD or Intel CPU, though AMD seems to be getting less bad press recently.

Any thoughts on where to start in configuring a new box would be appreciated.

I've gone with the running Win 11 on unsupported hardware option and I have to say it has exceeded my expectations - I expected it to be slower than 10 and buggy (I am a regular Win 11 user as my laptop is supported), but I've found it to be faster and smoother.

That said, I am on a CPU which is only one generation older than Win11 wants, your 2nd gen i5 is a bit longer in the tooth!

I think your question is going to be a difficult one to answer - the old "nobody got fired for buying..." Cisco / IBM etc. comes in where you can easily recommend something which is so overspeced that it can't fail to achieve what you want, where what I'm guessing you really want is something adequate for your needs for the next few years?

I would suggest looking at mvallevands' https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?tid=65843 - you don't need a lot, but do you want / need a bit of headroom in case your needs expand?

I don't think I have helped a great deal Smile

FWIW I upgraded my i5-2500K to Windows 11 without any problems by using the Rufus work around and it's running just fine.

Good to know.  I will investigate that.  Thank you.

Thank you.  A combination of good points and some F U D.

I guess another option to consider is to delay buying new hardware and pay Mr Softee his $30 to support W10 for another year.  Then no sooner had I read that when I came across this interesting company offering 0 day patching of Windows 10 for home use for free.. among other paid plans.  The company is 0Patch .  There is a good article here explaining how it works.  Want to use Windows 10 after Microsoft ends support? Meet 0Patch | PCWorld

Hope you find it interesting.
