I've looked through the forums and wiki a fair bit but couldn't find an answer. Has the option to write a plugin gone now? My setup is a Linux backend plus an Android TV box downstairs connected to TV. My wife was using the Search facility through the Android TV box looking for "Mock the Week" and she said it was a bit laborious and asked if there was an alternative or if I could write one.

Cheers,
Brian

Yes in v5 they were removed.

Did she try the web search that is better than most plugins.

Shame but what I thought, thanks.

As for web search I agree - much better but defeats the object of WAF. She's actually very capable when it comes to tech stuff but Uidroid does a great job of providing the NextPVR UI and we're basically back to the same user experience of when I retired  my old WinXP backend and PCH110 about 10 years ago.

Firefox is available on the Android TV box but it's just an extra added step.

Cheers,
Brian

The reason behind them disappearing was because we moved from the old .NET Framework (windows-only) to .NET (multi-platform, previously called .NET Core) at that time. When we did this, all the old plugins were going to need some development time from their original developers to rebuild them etc. At that point, the plugins we're already many years old and the developers had gone, so that wasn't really possible.

Inside NextPVR the plugin stuff is still there, and the interfaces etc didn't change, but it wasn't going to be possible to load the old plugin until they were updated. It was easier to just remove the loading, and tell people they were no longer supported.

These days we do have other plugins, for creating extra capture devices etc, since these seemed in line with where things were going, and are compatible with all clients, not just NextPVR UI. ie, allowing users to hook up things like streaming radio stations, or special sources etc.

I only did two plugins if I remember right (sudoku and dvb radio) but I remember it was fairly straight forward. I can understand removing general support for them.

We both like the standard NextPVR UI on the Android box though I use the web UI on my desktop sometimes. What my wife was suggesting to me was being able to select the letters of the search in order, e.g. for "Mock the Week" selecting 'm' then 'o' then 'c' would pretty much get her all the way there rather than all the scrolling she had to do.

I'll show her how to use the web ui and see if she gets on with that.

Cheers,
Brian

You could also just buy a remote with a keyboard, they are cheap. Check the back of this one https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.ph...#pid588175 on the Amazon link (I have the RF and BT models)

It could come to that though the Android box did come with a mini keyboard....unfortunately it's somewhere in my nerd room and I really need to tidy my desk. Big Grin
