All right, there's progress to report.

I disabled hardware acceleration in Kodi as @mvallevand suggested, and now .TS files are running much better there.  Cool  Will monitor the situation (goes without saying).

@sub had asked if the Thumbs directory exists under NPVR-data, and it does not. In addition, he suggested pointing the browser to http://127.0.0.1:8866. Sadly, that didn't work either -- once again, the browser complained that I wasn't connected. So it would appear that one needs to be connected to the Internet in order to reach an address on one's own machine?  Exclamation

Anyway, even if we solved that conundrum, we'd still be facing the issue where the Settings window runs far past the bottom edge of the screen and no display resolution helps the Save button at the bottom of the window to appear on the screen. (The Settings window is apparently not resizable.) (See the long paragraph at the end of the OP.)

Still, the bottom line is positive, as we seem to have made Kodi a viable choice for this scenario. My thanks to NPVR's top experts!

I will of course keep using NextPVR on the main system to record ballgames, it's been working magnificently there.

It doesn't require the internet. It does require TCP/IP and the loopback network device etc, which maybe missing from your machine. Normally this type of stuff would be present on Windows install

Either that, or you've got some firewall software blocking communication. (I see that bright red shield showing in your screenshot?)

It sounds like you have a solution though. Just stick with Kodi.
