I tried to use Media Portal a few weeks ago, and besides being probably the most unstable program I've ever run, it did have a couple of nice features.

The thing I liked the most was the way you could navigate the UI without stopping what you where doing (e.g. watching timeshifted TV). In GBPVR, I'm always a little bit worried that I'll hit the wrong button on the remote (back/info etc), because then the recording will just stop and I won't be able to get back to it.

I'd like to make the following suggestions (highest priority first):

1) When you're watching timeshifted TV and hit Record I'd like it to behave like you have added the show to the schedule (i.e. if you leave for the main menu, it doesn't stop recording).

2) If you start watching something (be it LiveTV, timeshifted tv, a video file or a dvd), the only way of stopping the playback/recording should be by using the "Stop" button. If you use any other means (i.e. you just navigate back to the menu), the file should continue to play/record (or be paused) - but in the background. This probably only makes sense if you also add:

3) A small window on the main menu (like in media portal) where you always see what is currently being played.

This would, in my opinion, make GBPVR a completely kill-all application. If I've understood the architecture of the application correctly, at least 1 and 2 shouldn't be too difficult, right?

Sounds like a very good idea, and i agree 100% on Media Portal being unstable!

I do intend to implement this sometime soon. I've been putting it off for a while - its not as straight for as it seems.

Sorry, no - I dent intend to implement either of these.
