I am having troubles burning my recordings to dvd. Every thing that I record at low quality is too large for a dvd.

Is there any way I can record this to a less large file type then MPEG?? I hate waiting an hour plus to convert every recording to DVD.

Thanks

They are about 3.75 hours of video.

Lower the bitrate. You can manually edit any of the settings to any bitrate you want.
Set audio bitrate to 192kbps.
3.75 hours of video to one dvdr, requires NO MORE than 2480kbps for video (with 224kbps audio), which is going to be very lousy quality.
I suggest you record at medium VBR, roughly 6000kbps max, 4500 average, then author the mpg to dvd structure on your hard drive, and use DVDShrink on it.
It's more time consuming, but far better quality.

Your other option, is to try an SVCD recording, at 480x480, 2500kbps MAX.
You can then usually author the SVCD mpegs directly to dvdr.
About 90% of players will play them with no problem.
The other option is to use 352x240, max bitrate about 2500, average 2000, using VBR.
This should easily give you 4 hours per dvdr.

Another option, is to use very high quality recordings, then re-encode them using a xDVD template/settings in tmpgenc. The KDVD full D1 template allows for roughly 5 hours per dvdr, and the KDVD Half D1 template allows for up to 16 hours per dvdr, at about VHS quality.
You can never have enough tuners!

Questions regarding this comes up from time to time. I think reboot's info above is good. Maybe we should put this on the wiki? Perhaps under the Tips/Tricks section?
