I'm sorry if I'm just being daft, but doesn't gbpvr come with more than just the default blue skin? The dropdown in config shows multiple skin choices but blows up quite ungracefully if I select any of the others. Are these supposed to be downloaded separately?

I looked in the skins sub-directories and it appears the only skin that has a complete installation is the default blue one, but the other standard ones listed do at least have a few files, but no where near a complete set. For instance, the Flat Blue - High Visibility skin just has two sub-directories in it's folder, a Common and something else, but all told it's only a few files, where the default Blue has many, many files. I reran the gbpvr installation thinking perhaps my install was simply screwed up, but that didn't appear to change anything.

Sorry if I'm being a newb here, but I've never tried another skin before.

Thanks,
Tim

none of this is very clear to a new user, but yes you need to download any other skins you want to use.

go the wiki site [ a documentation site] at http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Skin/Skin

to download different skins and any other plugins you decide you want to try

Thanks for the reply.

I would have assumed that if other skins weren't listed in the config app already, and if skin sub-directories didn't already exist in my installation. I've never tried another skin before so I'm not sure how I got the sub-directories, and partial installations at that. Perhaps they were inadvertantly included in some prior build (I've upgraded consistently during the last 5-6 months I've been using gbpvr) and have just been lingering in my installation waiting to cause me grief when I tried to use one. =)

Thanks again,
Tim

But wait...

The wiki says Flat Blue is included in the gbpvr release. If that's correct, it doesn't seem to be fully included like it should be because it definitely bombs when I select it and there are only a few files in the directory. Reinstalling didn't seem to fix it either, though I didn't uninstall first but instead just re-ran the install.

Can someone confirm whether the wiki is correct? Should Flat Blue and Red Sky be included in the standard gbpvr install?

Thanks,
Tim

I think only the Blue is included and is porbably the only one that will always work with the default modules. Try downloading the whole skin from the wiki. Note the older wiki has more skins although I don't know if it's being updated.

To play it safe, assume that only the skins you've installed yourself work. Otherwise you'll be getting funny errors and GBPVR might not load up at all. Some plugins will install skins for whatever they are supported and thus create a skins directory. That will not produce a full skin however.

I've just discovered that you can mix and match skin modules. For example, if you don't like the skin for the Shutdown plugin from skin A, you can always copy the skin Shutdown directory from skin B.

Ah, the plugins may be what are causing my trouble. I suppose if they install certain files within a skin directory, to overwrite them to make sure they work with it, it might make gbpvr think the skins are installed.

Thanks for the help.

The only skin installed by GB-PVR is Blue skin. If you want any other skins, you have to download them yourself.

Yes, this is the most likely thing causing this confusion for you.
