Instead of setting up canned entries via config, why not just save the last 10 searches ?
Duplicate searches shouldn't add additional entries but would just move the entry to the top of the list so it wouldn't be rolled out of the queue.

That also is an excellent idea.

I could implement either way. Any consensus on which approach should be implemented?

1) Save named canned queries in config
2) Save last 10 searches allowing selection from a list of some sort.

I kind of like saving the last 10. That way, the most common searches will remain active and be preserved as the interests change over time.

Another feature that might be useful is to save the last 10 filters. I tend to use set filters over and over, like display all movies for today.

I don't have the help file in front of me right now (and I should probably send you the current version), but as I recall the PhoneKeys control can indicate a cursor and can also use color to show if the key is still "active" or if it has timed out. For example, in the video archive plug-in you can use the phone keys to jump to a named entry in the list. The first time you press 2 it will say A in yellow. If you press it again it will say B in yellow. After a while the yellow will turn to white. If you press 1 again at that point you will have a string that says BA.

The left arrow key will do a backspace (wiping out the previous character). To cause a key to "stick" right away, you type 0 rather the the right arrow. The right arrow exits the control. So for example, to type AA quickly rather than pressing 2 <wait a while> 2 you can instead press 202.

I can't recall if this is the default behavior or not. You could try it and see what happens.

Thanks for the info on the PhoneKeys Jeff. I did play around with turning on its display, but was having some trouble figuring out how to position it and control the font and size of the characters. If you have any info on this, I'd appreciate if you could send my way....

This is what I'm leaning towards for the 'saving' of the history.
  • I think each item will have to be named so that it is easy to identify the item and what the filter does
  • Rather than introducing several more dialogs, I'd like to take advantage of the existing dialogs and just expand their functionality.
-------------------------------
Changes to Main Search Screen:
-------------------------------
- When clear screen, ie. no entries in list:
Program Infomation box contains list of Filters - button format:
Code:
(CSI Daily Filter  ) (Modify) (Delete)
(Todays Movies     ) (Modify) (Delete)
(This weeks sports ) (Modify) (Delete)
o Click on Name button, load filter, execute query
o Click on Modify button, load filter, display Edit Filter dialog
o Click on Delete button, Yes/No Confirm Delete dialog

If when a result is being displayed, this list is not viewable, you'd have to click the Clear button to display it again.

To see the details of what selected filter is, click modify.

-------------------------------
Changes to Filter Dialog Screen:
-------------------------------
- Add Search Criteria label (no update) to top of screen
- Add new command button with caption set to SAVE AS
- If SAVE AS and user click, pop dialog requesting name to save filter under. All settings will be saved: Search Criteria, Time Period, Search By, Range, Genre list, Rating list.

So, as you are setting up (or modifying) the filter, you can save it under a name so that all the settings may be retrieved later (on the main search screen)

Hope this makes sense. If you have any other ideas, feel free to send em my way....

When I used Search Wizard to create a reoccurring recording for The Shield, the MPG file is created in a "Manual Recordings" folder. XRecord shows it as my "No Poster" image. Should I email you my GBPVR.DB3 file so you can determine how reoccurring recordings should be set? I looked at the file and it seemed the Type you create is different than when I create a reoccurring recording with XRecord or GB-PVR.

Not sure how XRecord determines what image should show. In SearchWiz, I would look for "media/art/The Shield.jpg".

Before you mail me anything, let me take a look at XRecord. If I need more detail, I will provide you information on what I need.

I also still have the problem of the show image appears and disappears really fast.
