Another couple of things I've thought of:

1) It would be nice to enhance the onscreen info that appears when you change channel or press info. At the moment it shows the channel information and the title and EPG data for the current programme. I'd also like to see what's coming up next as well - perhaps not the full EPG data for it (although maybe another press of info could bring that up). This sort of "Now & Next" display is pretty common across a whole range of (non PC) PVRs, so you could maybe look to some of them for inspiration. I've seen ones that do "time bar" graphics of how far through the current programme you are and so on...

2) I would like the time that this info stays on screen as you flick through channels to be user-definable.

I want back my FM Radio... ^^; Netradio is nice, but isn't the same as local Radio Stations with News, Warnings, "Good Morning Shows" etc.

Another Idea: How about a native functionality for capturing netradio? Title and Interpret are sended via netradio... it should be easy to implement an "easy-to-go-capture-solution". Instead buffering into one file, it could be buffered into several files (renamed with artist-title) or something like this.

Further... the most important thing in GB-PVR is currently the Server-Client usability. Two things here are really annoying: If the client doesn't find the server (eg you have netshares on the server AND local) it don't start or produces errors... or makes nothing.
For this the clients should work a little on it's own, even if the server isn't reachable (DVD-Playback, (net-)radio, local dirs for music, photos, videos)... you know what i mean?

Something like a "LED Display" which indicates, if the client is actual connected with the server were a fine thing too...: "Status: Connected to server <green light>"

GB-PVR is wunderful and has so exciting much potential... i am so sorry that i can't program anything... Sad

They'd of course have no epg though, until the user selected a epg channel for that digital channel. Currently we do the reverse behaviour, based on the epg channels, but the user cant watch the channel until the mapping is performed.

sub Wrote:Plugins for dynamic file naming is probably a decent idea. ie, maybe with a default plugin which allows some user specified template format. That way developers could knock up plugins to dynamically lookup filenames if they want. I probably wouldnt do the tvrage.com lookup myself, but a simple way for users to hook into this would be a good idea.

At record time, or post record? Post record might be better, since a potentially slow internet look when the recording is due to start might cause problems.

During EPG update.

You might add code that would look up the Seas/Ep info during Recording time (after it has been started), IF it doesn't exist in the db. And you could do a quick file rename on POST.

UltraXMLTV already creates a SxxExx number but has to cheat to add it to the subtitle. It uses theTVdb.com. I agree that it might be better to leave the lookup to plugins or utilities, so a user can choose what lookup to use.

I would imagine you will need to add a few more meta tags into the programme table...

I haven't finished reading this thread, but think these would be good to add natively

Season Number
Episode Number
Aspect (4:3, 16:9)
Quality
New Show (we could do away with the asterisk)

Also, we could have GIFs or PNGs associated with these tags

It's true... I have just started using a PC client, and there are several rough edges...

I like the current interface is simple to use and its quick.

I don't like channel scan at all. It was ok 5 years ago when I had one analogue tuner and 5 channels. Now I have 2 DVB-T and 2 DVB-S and something like 200 plus channels to choose from. Its takes too long to configure.

As you now have inbuilt DVB radio I would like "TV guide" and a seperate "DVB radio guide". Rather than the current setup where the TV channels and Radio channels are all mixed together under "TV Guide"

Well you can create multiple guides in the TV Listings plugin. However this is still a very good point. The reason I haven;t added in all the dvb radio stations is that it is a PITA having to wade through all the radio shows when browsing the seach facility.

Also, as you can now record radio, it would be good to put these recordings in a Radio genre / category so they can be browsed separately from the TV recordings.

Another backend request. A way to send control signals via TCP and receive feedback. If in a client/server setup, it would need to interact with the client. This way, remote control applications could be made for devices like the iPhone/iPod and other mobile devices or a "plugin" could be created to utilize the IR receiver in the HDHomeRun.

I had this on my wishlist earlier but I'll keep my emphasis on the need to control a PCH/MVP which means the TCP app needs to interact with the server not the client.
