jksmurf Wrote:Zehd, can I ask you a Q about the renaming? If some other transcoding component or plugin uses the real ffmpeg, but only finds ffmpeg, will it blow up (presumably so?). Is there any way around it? I haven't tried it but your front end looks tempting, I guess the only thing that has stopped me having a go at it is if any other process wants ffmepg.

k.

THe Short answer is no... With the current incarnation of ZProcess, and how GB-PVR hooks into it, (By thinking it's dealing with the original FFMPEG), Other programs that are expecting to find the reall FFMpeg, may be sadly dissappointed.

The long answer is this...

Within the Video plugin's Transcode menu, it calls FFMPEG using the default commadlines sub coded into the config.xml

ZProcess pretty much disregards everything in the command line except the source file name and path (the first string residing in quotes, including the quotes), a destination file name and path, (the second string using quotes) and some other switches, specific to ZProcess that a user can add/edit to the line in the config.xml...

In certain contexts, e.g. a file being transcoded into c:\MVP01234567.mpg, ZProcess knows that it should use the Trans2MVP Profile because the destination filespec starts with 'MVP'

If the destination is an avi, it will use the 2avi transcode profile..

Other switches are on the wiki...

If there's a specific requirement you'd like, ask, and I'll see...

I'm currently PMing pBS regarding his ShowBurner plugin using the same method of hooking into GB-PVR as I use (actually I got it from him)

So, when you Stop an AVI, GBPVR closes ZProcess, Hunter closes FMpeg...

The only thing I can thing of is win 2k3 might not let me kill processes like the way XP allows me to...

I suggest you add a clomun to your task manager that shows Base Priority. If FMpeg is using 90-1000% Processero but it's at 'Normal' or 'Below Normal' (not recommended) then it should be all good. FMpeg takes what it needs....

I was testing on an MCE box with a 2.8 P4 w/1gig ram, all MCE services stoped. ZProcess closed but Datahunter remained alon with fmpeg still transcoding. Tried this a few time including a few reboots. I will make a few changes as suggested and give it a whirl. I'll report back after I try.

Interesting. After I wrote my post, I had it happen a couple of times for me too.

I'm not sure how I got it working right, but I think I was having trouble because I also had a manual ZProcess transcode happening at the same time... (It's supposed to allow you to do that too...)

Anyway, after I closed all instances of ZProcess, Ffmpeg, fmpeg and hunter, it didn't give me any trouble...

I'd really like to to find out what is different about your system and mine.

Yes, I mention that I did that, but, after I get ZProcess installed I still end-up with an hourglass instead of my normal mouse pointer, whenever the pointer is over the ZProcess window. I think it will take more than an edit of a batch file to fix that.

OK I misunderstood you.

When the Hourglass appears only over ZProcess, that's my doing. Unless you have asked it to transcode, it should not be in hourglass mode.

Are you manually starting it? Or is that when you try and view a video with MVP...?

I have lost track of what you have...

You should have

ZProcess 601
The real ffmpeg.exe renamed to fmpeg.exe, same folder
comskip
comclean
VLC

Recently, I believe I have fixed ZProcess so that it errors, and asks you only once about comskip and vlc, so in reality, a person should not need comskip or VLC.

Run the RemoveZProcess.reg again and start clean again.

There's got to be something else going on...

1) I unzipped the file I got from the wiki at http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utili...rocess.zip
into a folder on my pc.

2) I edit the ZProcess-Install.bat thusly:
Code:
@echo off

copy *.exe "%PROGRAMFILES%\devnz\gbpvr\Third Party\FFmpeg"
copy *.jpg "%PROGRAMFILES%\devnz\gbpvr\Third Party\FFmpeg"

copy *.ocx %systemroot%\System32

%systemroot%\System32\regsvr32 /s %systemroot%\System32\tabctl32.ocx
%systemroot%\System32\regsvr32 /s %systemroot%\System32\comdlg32.ocx
%systemroot%\System32\regsvr32 /s %systemroot%\System32\MSCOMCTL.OCX
%systemroot%\System32\regsvr32 /s %systemroot%\System32\MSCOMCT2.OCX

regedit /s ZProcess.reg

3) I rename "D:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\Third Party\FFmpeg\ffmpeg.exe" to "D:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\Third Party\FFmpeg\fmpeg.exe"

4) I run "RemoveZProcess.reg"

5) I run my edited version of ZProcess-Install.bat

6) I run "D:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\Third Party\FFmpeg\ffmpeg.exe" It says:

7) I point it to "D:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\GBPVR.exe"

8) It then says:

9) I press "cancel" when the explorer window pops-up to let me point out the location of comskip, then press "ok" at the next message box:

10) It then says:

so I point it to the file.

11) I then "find or create an Override Output path" of c:\tmp and "find or create a Root Backup Output path" of c:\tmp (I have almost reached the limit on attachments, so I can't show you screen caps for these)

I then get the following:

12) I press "ok", and the previous error message goes away, leaving ZProcess minimized in my taskbar. When I click on that, I get the ZProcess window, but the mouse pointer turns into an hourglass whenever it is in the ZProcess window.

Under the "version" tab on the properties box for ZProcess (the new ffmpeg.exe) it says "1.0.0.370"

If I close ZProcess, then restart it, I get the

error again, with ZProcess minimized to the taskbar, and an hourglass when I switch to the ZProcess window.

If there is something wrong in the procedure I am following to install ZProcess, please let me know.

Thank you for your kind attention and assistance.

The latest version in the Zip is 601, the latest available directly from my webspace (linked on the wiki) is 622

Please make sure you are not downloading the wrong zip file...

I'm going to install ZProcess on a friend's cmputer that has the OS installed on the F Drive. Hopefully I'll catch some problems there. But there really have been a lot of improvement from 370 to 622...

Edit: the latest zip file also has the edited Install file that uses %programfiles%

OK. I recreated your problem. I setup ZProcess on a Computer with the OS on the F Drive... I found the remnant in ZProcess that had a Hardcode reference to GB-PVR, residing on C:

I updated ZProcess as the Zip and the individual Update file on the wiki. The version should be 624. Anything earlier will not have the fix...

Thanks so much for your patience. If you have more trouble, don't hesitate....

Frank

PS. I'm having some problems with my frequent updates and web page caching. If you are not downloading 624, then pm me, and I will make sure you get the latest version...

I downloaded the new version (624). I still had to show it where gbpvr.exe and fmpeg.exe were installed, but the hourglass is gone, and I was able to use it to transcode a file.

One thing I couldn't figure out, how do you get it to save the transcoded file to a different directory than the input file?

Thanks for a great utility.

That's great!

That's what the override directory is for.

I never really designed ZProcess so you can transcode one file, then set and input and output and set another. I suppose that could be added easy enough. For now, I have the override directory, 'override' the default which is set to the same direcory as the input file...

If you really want that feature, I could have it for you next year some time, or tomorrow...
