Please somebody try to empty the EPG completely and see if the spikes go away.

Last week I had no EPG data at all, and I had the hiccups :-(
I'm not always right

Sadly the geforce 5200 had the hiccup as well. I installed a 7200 rpm drive on the second IDE without anything else connected on that IDE and a 5400 rpm drive on the primary with no other device connected. bgpvr is running on the primary and the buffer for Live TV set to the 7200 drive. The hiccup is still there but a lot less noticable. Is there not a way to use the same algroithm (for lack of a better word) for the buffer as is used for recording tv?

As far as I can tell it is already. I cant see any difference that could be causing this.

Timeshift mode is effectively just watching the file as it records.

So is it not exactly doing the same thing, or is it?

Just wondering if it identical, and people said watching from the recording and not TS works, maybe people w/ this problem just need to be able to add a buffer like MVP users can. A second or two longer to change channels, but problem solved.

Its pretty much the same, but no not exactly. The only difference is it checks the date time on a file every thirty seconds, but I've looked at that bit of code very very carefully, but I dont see how this check could be causing this CPU spike some people a reporting.

On my look at ram4x4nut's machine the other day, monitoring the CPU usage by thread for the Recording Service also makes me think it is not the thread that checks this timestamp that is causing the problem, but something else.

What does it check for? The end of the time block for the program change?

There may be nothing logical to why it is happening, and it could be some other process is checking on that process (eg, something thinking it's spyware and monitoring), and that's causing the problem (since we all don't have it.

Is what it checks for something that can just be stored as a variable instead for the duration of the recording? If you can rule out something you're not doign every 30sec anymore, that would be about that, and it would entirely be a windows thing.

The only reason it must mean something is that watchign a live recoding does not do it, and it doesn't have a 30sec problem, too.

Ken

I have tried to empty my epg to do the test you want, but when I try to do it thru the config panel nothing happens. The program schedule is still there. I mentioned this earlier in the thread but no one responded as to how I might sucessfully empty the epg.

Just out of curiosity; how are the people having this problem viewing tv. I am viewing thru component output to a Toshiba HDTV. Does the hicup happen viewing on a std monitor or over DVI etc? I know I am reaching here, but I'm just trying to cover all bases.

I have tried using just my computer monitor, analog out to tv and svideo out to tv. The result is the same for all outputs.
