Quote:Which line would this be then?
It effectively just means calling the appropriate constructor on the SkinHelper class. I described it about six months back in this post: http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=8...ostcount=1. See the section in that post titled 1) Using the default skin.xml files

Quote:What are your thoughts so far on this sub. Lots of ideas flying about.
I posted most of my thoughts a few pages ago.

There seems to be lots of people pulling in different directions though, trying to include other problems under the same umbrella. I think this thread seems to be trying to solve too much. If I did this all the time, I'd get nothing done.

Actually I may have posted it a couple of days before the release, and I had made the changes a few days before that.

I think you're right. I got mine because of AM, again, I think.

No, I've invited lots of users because of their skins. Appologies in advance to those I'd forgotten to include, who now feel offended - it wasnt intentional. Its often difficult to remember who is working on what... (you're welcome to PM for access pre-releases)

True. Nothing may come from this discussion now, but it is putting alot of thoughts on the table. This is somewhat like your thread last year about making a new or better default skin. Alot was brought up, but only a few things were implemented.

The baseskin.xml and the fall back method are two of the best improvements so far. Determining the next step is the hardest part.

Ok, you 2 or 3 (HUNDRED!!!) other people out there glued to this thread.

Would you like to see an image based version of blue developed and floated out there for a while?

This is what will be a given:

It is unsupported by sub and deveolpers (unless they wish to participate). (edited this line from unofficailly supported to unsupported. I meant to say what it says now. I did not want to imply this idea is endorsed by sub.)
It will be "open development". No individual will hold sole maintainership.
ALL ideas are welcome (none will be eliminated or discouraged during the testing phase).

Let us work out the the bugs and troubleshoot to leave sub and his valuable time suited for greater things.

Myself, Old Dog, and MixMan are only guys with ideas. As you can see here, we don't even agree on everything so don't let this seem like an idea only the three of us want to explore. Nothing here is meant to be ramrodded through.

In other words, do users prefer using a beautiful skin with the default features and maybe one or two plugins OR do the prefer using the default skin with every plugin available for that version of GBPVR.

Fatman_do Wrote:That works for GBPVR, but not other plugins. Reven is putting his new releases through a beta phase which allows us skinners to get a glimpse of what is coming up. The problem is, users want to use those betas with the skin of their choice. I think what I am trying to get at here is a "band aid" method that will satisfy users and ease the skinner's job.

You are correct. My statement mostly applied to skinners since it is rare that a release of GBPVR adversely affects a plugin. Only recently have plugins been affected by a release (.Net 2.0, SQL lite). Typically, it is the skin that needs to be updated in order for a "broken" plugin to work after a release. Also, I think reven is a special case since his plugins are a) in a (seemingly) constant Beta state and b) only support two skins directly.

Oh, I am not offended if that is what I led you to believe. I knew you had beta testers and you probably hand picked those for reasons that suited you. There never was anything I posted here that would have led you to think I would have been an asset in that process. I assumed the process was you were PM'd and you would say yea or nea. I just felt I didn't have anything to bring to the table so I never considered it. Based on discussions here, I think I need to reconsider that.

Old Dog.

No hard feelings ok? I didn't want it to appear I was in a sparring match with you and was throwing out your ideas out of hand. My line of work requires me to shoot holes in every idea to make the final ones better. Granted, it is harder to shoot inside than shoot outside. I am not suggesting my ideas are golden and anyone elses is junk.

I think I will shut up for a while and let everyone else have a turn. Unless I am addressed anyway.

Actually I think I did okay defending my position.

Now I beleive the onus is on you to review these arguments and correctly identify the solutions that have better technical merit.

Next time you're in Miami, I 'll buy you lunch!
