Sub,

Since upgrading, GBPVR can not see any of my old recordings. It is pointing to the correct directory, but ths hows are not listed. IS this data sotred in a DB or file someplace? I assumed you just did a read of the directory. Is there anyway I can get these shows to display now?

Thanks in advance...aurora

Wondering if there's something I can do to wrok around something, so I don't need to roll back.

When a channel changes over from one time to the next in time shift, it pauses for a 1-2 count, goes for a second, then pauses for maybe as long as a 1 count.

I'm assuming this is a side-effect from a change that improved something elsewhere. It always "skipped" a little before at those changes, but they were just stutters previously.

sub, is there anything you can think of that I could set to maybe counter this? I'm a non-MVP user, so it may have been an improvement for that setup. If not, can you at least confirm the DB is the same as the one used in 0911? That way I can just put 0911 back w/o reinstall, and put in the DB I'm using now.

I'm sure this program is worth the price and then some... but the big draw was definately that it has been free and that it has built a community of users...

I strongly agree - the fact that this great product is supported in part by an active community is probably the reason Sub is so productive in delivering great updates. Let's all make sure we support this great work with our committment and our funds. (Mine is on the way, Sub).

While I'm sure the initial thought about a commercial version was well intentioned, supporting a commercial product has many obligations that would all take away time from developing new features. Running a software business and serving customers takes a lot of time and resources, all of which would otherwise be spent coding. (This is my opinion of course, as someone who formerly managed software businesses).

I hope I'm not out of line on this, but it really has been a great experience--thanks everyone!

I agree that a lot more people should be sending in donations, especially now, GB-PVR has vastly improved in the year or so that I've been using it.

The words "GB-PVR" and "commercial" shouldn't be used in the same sentence unless you're talking about fast forwarding over one, however. No offense to sub and all his great work, but it would be a major undertaking to bring GB-PVR to commercial status, and IMO it's simply not stable enough to be a commercial application (look at all the bug reports already for this release). Then again I suppose the same can be said for many other programs out there that are touted as "commercial" ... I think they're crap! Smile

People get a lot of pay things online for free, but I think when someone gives you something for free, and you rely on it every day, picking just some amount to donate and say "thanks" is very little to ask.

I think it's the inability to do that which makes the pay model the only way to go, and I think this program is the perfect case that it doesn't always need to be.

To be quite honest, this is the expected behaviour and it has been like this for a long time. Nothing has changed in the way this aspect works in the last release, so I'm surprised if its been working any different for you up until now.

Yes, the database structure was changed in this release.

Cool...thx for the info. If it's expected, then it's possible if I went back to 0911 it would start happening, too. Everything else seems great.

Maybe if there was a larger buffer for TS? I always noticed there wasn't an option to adjust it. That is, if it would make a difference.

GB-PVR doesnt actually use a buffer for timeshift. It actually just records (and later deletes) individual shows from your TV guide. This brief interruption is caused when switching from one file to the next. I've tried to make it as smooth as I can, but its still not as smooth as I'd like.

I have seen a couple of people posting about problems with the mini-guide in the latest release. I have been having a problem which I'm not sure is the same as other peoples: when I try to bring up the mini-guide, the panel comes up at the bottom of the screen as before, but without channel or programme issue. The full guide works fine both from the main menu and as an overlay in live tv mode, as does the normal osd.

Any ideas what could be causing this: I can't see anything relevant in the logs, otherwise I'd post an excerpt?

Also, I have to agree with the people who suggest making GBPVR somehow commcerial. It's not that I don't think its fantastic to be offering something so good for free, its just that I get the feeling that Graeme is not being rewarded as he should. Whether or not payment should be compulsorary is not for me to decide, but maybe people should be encouraged more strongly to donate, along with a suggested amount? Just an idea.
