Just purely from a DVBS perspective Sub hard baked the two muxes 11778 V and 11426 H into NPVR to accommodate the 7 day epg on Astra 28.2. There’s a number of other satellites that also provide 7 day epg like Astra 19.2 and Hotbird that also provide the same but on different muxes. Might be worth looking at the possibility of allowing the user to supply mux details before running epg update. Just a suggestion.

I think I asked if you had exposure to S13.0E 11881 or 11842V for Sky Italy and I thought sub posted OpenTV in NZ is not available anymore.

It is more than the mux there are provider nuances for all broadcast ie Freeview CRIDs that should be factored in, so better to go case by case. There are formats that I have read about like MediaHighWay that could be different (if they are even viable in 2024).

Since they are FTA, it would be nice just have them streamed somewhere since the equipment needed to get all the free-to-air stuff is pretty bulky, but lots of hobbiest still enjoy it I see. Sadly most of the channels here are just religious ones.

NextPVR can already receive DBV-S FTA.  This thread is primarily about enhanced OTA EPG data.

This is primarily aimed at users based in the British Isles receiving broadcasts from Astra 28.2. The broadcast footprint is so tight and narrow these days users outside the British isles would need enormous dishes to receive all the Freesat, Sky fta and any other FTA channels.

Martin I’m assuming Sub will be able to recreate the same setup for the PCIe tuner as he did for the Sat/IP tuner. I’m assuming there’s no ownerships or permissions in play here preventing NPVR from extracting the epg via the PCIe card. I assume the zaps i provided will clarify that.

Yes your zaps do help test an EPG update since it is the same data streams as if it is delivered by DVB-S or SAT>IP They don't exercise the actual reception of the data via rtp, libdvbv5 or BDA (Windows)

Don’t forget you can compare those zaps via the PCIe tuner v the zaps via the Sat/IP tuner I provided earlier in this thread for any irregularities. Channel scans on both tuner are identical so it’s clearly something further up the line that prevents the epg from the PCIe scans being passed to NPVR.

You maybe aren't understanding the path, the transport stream data from PCI, USB, rtp (from SAT>IP or HDHR) will be the same and what core sees will be the same. It is actually only the EPG pids but getting a fullmux is easier.

/dev/dvb/adapter# -> DeviceHostLinux (libdvbv5) -> DeviceHostLinux stream* -> core EPG processing

streaming EPG was broken in the beta for DVB-S, DVB-T and DVB-C as well, but that has been fixed. Stream live tv (and recording) was a different logic path.

This is fine there was no DeviceHost bridge involved.

SAT>IP -> rtp -> core EPG process

Ok so you now have what you need to get Freesat and Sky OpenTV epg working in NPVR using a PCIe internal tuner like it works with a Sat/IP tuner in NPVR.
