I was able to get back into web admininstration. I don't know for sure, but I have a suspicion that the recorded program that I was trying to stream ended. It could just have been a timeout thing. Anyway...

I changed the external player to VLC, installed VLC on my client. Now instead of getting a WMP error in the browser, I only have a blank Firefox screen. When this happens I cannot get back to the web admin (and then get the 404 errors).

At this point, I don't think this is a client side issue. I will do some testing on my server at when I get home.

If anyone can think of a simple solution to this problem, please let me know.

Regards.

Isn't there a special vlc plugin for firefox?

Yes, there is, however, it should have been installed automagically when VLC player installs (which I have installed on both the server and client machines).

You still need a streamer port open in your firewall/router.

Hello, all...
I'm having problems connecting to my PC. What's happened is that I'm away at college and want to connect to my PC at home. I know both the IP address of the computer (LAN) and the IP address of the router (WAN) but when I type in xx.xxx.xx.xx:7647/gbpvr/guide.aspx (which is my WAN address, followed by the other stuff) it just tells me that the connection timed out. Sorry to not have read through the entire thread to find an answer, but it's 133 pages
What do I need to do in order to make my home computer accessible from school?
Thanks in advance for the help!

I do have port 81, which is the same port I use for web admin, opened up. I can access web admin without problems.

I tried running locally on the server and I get the same problems (blank firefox screen). I can see that the vlc process is running. It is quite possible that the machine I am running GBPVR on does not have enough processing power (my PVR project was to see if I could take advantage of odd computer parts laying about which would normally be junked). The vlc.exe is burning up my CPU so it must be trying to transcode (but not enough horsepower to make it go?). I have no problems with recordings and playback via GBPVR, but that is due to my setup taking full advantage of my hardware acceleration and the perfect combination of codecs.

Also, is there a place that talks about the changes made in each version? The info on the Wiki doesn't seem to cover all revisions.

Thanks, Ken

Folow these instructions. They reference foeardingv for the streamer port but you do the same for the port for EWA itself....based on your info that would be port 7647 forwarded to your gbpvr by your router.

Don't share ports....have one port for EWA (you mentioned 81) and set a different port for the stream itself. Make sure to open up this port on both your PC firewall and to forward the port on your router to your GBPVR PC.

As for power it does take some to stream.....try setting the size of the video to the smallest and the bitrate to the lowest.....and then work your way forward till it no longer works......

Just as a note on plugins vs. native players....this info is also on the wiki.

Plugin Info:
Using the external player option is far more reliable than the plugins. If you do use a plugin running Firefox is the best browser to use with either Windows Media or VLC plugin. I prefer the VLC plugin.
VLC Plugin
Firefox 1.5
Plugin works for Play, Stop and Pause

IE 6.0
Plugin works for Play, Stop and Pause

IE 7.0
Plugin works for Play, Stop and Pause

Windows Media Plugin
*Can only use the WMV and MPEG 3 Audio with ASF Mux combination
*For the Windows Media Plugin to work in Firefox you can not have the VLC plugin installed
*Firefox Windows Media Plugin is available here.
*Instructions: for loading the plugin can be found here.

Firefrox 1.5
Plugin Works. (Can not have the VLC Plugin Installed at the same time)

IE 6.0
Plugin Works. However, Player window does not close correctly.

IE 7.0
Plugin Works. However, Player window does not close correctly.
