Did some of you try the cutpoint editing function of comskip?

I wonder if, apart from the user interface, the functionality is OK.

turkey Wrote:Anyway, why would this be helpful? If you are going to edit the comercials out, why would you want to set the marks inaccurately while you are watching the show? The great thing about comskip (if it works for you) is that it cuts accurately at black frames. There is no way you will get the same accuracy with a manual button.

Well, If this feature would exist like it is in my mind, I would pause the show when a commercial block comes and adjust the position with some colored buttons on my remote. More accurately than comskip. I would do the same when some parts of the show are being repeated by the broadcaster and I would do that at the beginning and in the end of the show where perhaps no commercials are. I could just be sure that the cutpoints are where I want them to be.

turkey Wrote:If you still want it, narkuma, you should look into writing a batch file for it.

I would like to do it. Please explain how I can tell the batch file the exact position. is there some kind of log file which is permanently updated while watching the show? Something telling me how many minutes and seconds I have already watched?

Is this editing function part of some kind of gbpvr plugin? Iwould like to do ANY editing with gbpvr. I have no mouse nor keyboard. I would like to lean back in my armchair and edit shows having a cold beer and cigarette.

If someone is able to produce a plugin for GBPVR that can start comskip with the .txt file of the .mpg file that should be reviewed as argument then comskip will open and show the mpeg and the positions of the commercials.
Then, by pressing remote control buttons that would be translated by the pluging to keys being send to comskip you can review the cutpoints and improve them. When, when done, the plugin can ask comskip to write out the reviewed .txt file and to exit.
The only reason that I did not do this myself is because i do not use GBPVR for watching the recordings.

the key-translate would not be necessary, since comskip will start on top of gbpvr with focus. correct me if i'm wrong....

i would try such a plugin. let's just wait for the next gbpvr-release, i don't want to start a plugin and then have to rewrite it to fit the new functions.

I would be happy if someone did, because I do not feel able to do it myself.

To be honest: I hope that sub may do it, because it seems to be a simple task for him with a big improvement...

i get only black and white picture with macroblocks....

i wanted to do such a plugin long time ago, but i never found a possibility to get a screenshot from a mpeg2-file at a specific position. if someone knows how to do that, it would be helpful.

These are the keyboard keys comskip uses to review and edit the cutpoints

Code:
arrow left            One frame back
arrow up             One second back
arrow right          One frame further
arrow down         One second further

page down          Twenty seconds further
page up              Twenty seconds back

n                       Skip to Next end of commercial
p                       Skip to Previous begin of commercial
i                        Insert new commercial at current location
b                       Set current location as beginning of the commercial
e                       Set the current location as the end of the commercial
d                       Delete the commercial around current location
w                      Write the edited cutpoints to the input file.
ESC                   Exit comskip

Indeed, no color in Comskip preview, takes too much time
