I like MEncoder a lot, but it *always* gives me files with a duration of 0:00! Anyone else having this problem? It happens no matter what I try; even doing a straight copy to another mpeg2 (no transcoding) still causes this. The issue means that I basically can't use it, since GBPVR and every other app is clueless about how to seek around in the file.

Yes, this is a known problem when using VMR7. I fixed it a couple of days ago for the next release.

does that file you posted NativeUtilities.zip for the aspect ratio fix, fix it?
actually not a biggie cuz vmr9 now is so smooth and efffortless...
the low cpu usage sure is nice for lower end users tho..

sgilani: add -idx to re-index the files while coding, and if outputting mpeg, use -mpegopts tsaf [to put TimeStamps on All Frames]
i can watch the files in gbpvr WHILE transcoding and timeline is perfect..Smile
also,don't use a sse2 enabled version,as they have a math bug...
[the ones available on mplayer site directly usually don't have sse2]
the edl function on newer versions enables cutting of commercials too and works nicely with comskip Smile

i'm gonna try it and let ya know...
got the transcoder working..you might even like this...Smile
works with individual transcodes from menu, AND nightly processing..Big Grin
i need more profiles tho! is it hardcoded to how many we can have? i'll go search for details,i think that info's out there..
[i tried to add one and config wouldn't open anymore]
cuz i need one for nightly processing, and at least one for menu using, and i'm sure people don't wanna have to give up their ipod and psp profiles..
[i don't think mencoder can do psp yet, could be wrong]
i feel a sticky coming on...lol

You can add as many as you like in config.xml. You must of cocked something up when you were editing the file.

the tsaf is extremely important for mpeg output..and -idx is really for avi output but doesn't hurt to always have in there even for mpegs..
avi's won't be playable till the whole file is converted, a limitation of the format...but i've been using the transcoding button and can start the transcode, then hit the exit button and go play the file immediately while it's transcoding so i can see the quality and adjust if compression too high..
but i find using the constant quality gives me best results,[vbscale=]
as it adjusts for difficult content type better...
so for avi just use the -idx and for mpegs use -mpegopts dvd, tsaf and make sure to use -lavcopts ildct:vrc_buf_size=1835:keyint=16:vmax_b_frames=2 to produce dvd compliant files..
[add anything else you want for quality enhancements..like mbd=2 or vhq]
let me know if tht works for you..

I tried adding -idx, and it fixed the 0:00 problem, but it has the same problem as ffmpeg for me; the commercials don't show up when I play the recording.. But if I exit, and then go back and resume the recording, its magically there! In another thread someone said the FPS flag or something gets messed up, but it shows up as 29.97fps and the correct duration in GSpot..

here's my MEncoder commandline, am I doing something wrong?

Quote:mencoder.exe <source_file> -ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=900:interlacing:me_quality=6:chroma_me:noqpel -oac mp3lame -lameopts mode=2:cbr:br=224 -vf hqdn3d=3:2:3:3 -idx -fps 30000/1001 -ofps 30000/1001 -o <destination_file>

Sub,

Would it be possible in a future release, to add the database update as an option to the manual transcode feature in the video library? Sort of a conversion for archive function. I don't think I need to convert and replace all my recordings just specific ones. I'll do it manually for now.

Another useful transcoding feature would be to set transcoding options for specific recordings. For instance I'm going to record "Lost" for my brother's IPod. I would like him to be able to download it the next morning without a manual conversion. But I don't want to set all my recordings to be converted to IPod.

Thanks
