danIrl Wrote:Stattik: Can you provide some more detail about the tweaking you made with ffdshow? When I have turned this on with the default settings, quality always seemed worse.
I'm using ffdshow-20041012-sse2. Newer versions didn't seem to work as well.
I'd enable the OSD just to make sure it's working.
The only other thing I have enabled is Deinterlacing. The method I use is TomsMoComp. Swap field is unchecked and Search Effort is 3. Vertical filter is also unchecked.
I have a GeForce 6600GT and experience exactly the same problem as DanIrl.
Im using the latest Forceware drivers and latest Purevideo decoder, and only occurs on interlaced video with DXVA enabled. In my case it appears to be related to the DXVA motion compensation (decoding of MPEG2 "P" and "B" frames). If I disable hardware acceleration in Purevideo the problem goes away, however I'm then limited to software BOB deinterlacing which makes the picture look very fuzzy. I can minimise the motion studdering on my recordings by changing my TV-card encoder settings to reduce the amount of P and B frames which helps enormously (at the expense of file size), therefore adding further evidence that it is motion compensation related.
The problem does not occur on progressive format videos/DVD's.
I consider this to be a Nvidia bug and have raised a case through the hardware manufacturer of my card (you can't raise a case directly with Nvidia).
BTW, I have an old ATI9550 which if I use instead of the 6600GT works perfectly without any studdering using exactly the same setup and Purevideo decoder, which again further points the problem to the Nvidia card or drivers.
According to the nvidia webpage, the GeForce4MX 440 with 8X AGP has a 128 bit memory bandwidth with upto 8GB/s.. so this should be sufficient. I think I will try again will a clean install.
Anyone know of a video card info tool similar to CPU-Z?
AMD Sempron 3000, XP Home SP3, Maxtor 200GB SATA, 512MB, PVR-150, NOVA-T-500, ATI 9550, Silverstone LC13
and one last question for Stattik & TipStir: What refresh rate and resolution do you set when connecting the card to the TV?
Presume you guys are both using NTSC format.

Thanks lads for your settings. I have tried most of them.. but with no real difference. Simply put.. the quality is not nearly as good as viewing directly thru the TV. I have tried various combinations of drivers and settings, even other PVR software programs. I probably will not get any better quality unless I change the graphics card.. and even then not gauranteed. I think i will buy an nvidia 6200 and see if that makes a difference.. they are relatively cheap anyhow. Cheers for the help.

please do and let us know how you get on!
I did a very quick test comparing my 9600pro to an 9800pro and didn;t notice any immediate improvement, only more noise from the fan.
I am considering building a new pvr machine in the next few days so any info would be much appreciated.
