I have a WRT54G, and two GS's.

http://www.portforward.com/english/route...rindex.htm gives a list of programs (but GBPVR is not included, maybe we should tell them, but then it (sort of) compromises security) but the instructions are almost identical for any of them see e.g. the pictures on

http://www.portforward.com/english/route...te_VPN.htm

[EDIT]better still ..the default guide ...!
http://www.portforward.com/english/route...efault.htm

couldn't be easier (he said.. )

Can you replace "localhost" with the IP address of your PC? Is the router forwarding to that IP address? Also, some routers will not perform a loopback, so it can only be tested from the Internet side.

still got nothing-- i found an area in my router config called DDNS where i could choose DynDNS.org as my service- i could enter in my host name- as well as my account info to log into DynDNS.com - then i saved my settings and i get a status error saying "Status: Socket Error, DDNS update fail!" not sure what that means, or if the DDNS setting is supposed to help at all, but it doesnt work.

Your router should update your DynDNS.org account to reflect your current WAN ip. Your router should reflect a status that your ddns has been updated succesfully

If this is done correctly, you should be able to ping your dynamic ip. Open up a command window then type 'ping myhome.homeip.net' and it should return your packets. then try pinging from a different comp, maybe ask somebody to ping your dynamic ip address, and if it pings then you have a working ip address. Make sure you don't have firewalls that will block the ping.

Your next step is then to port forward port 7647 ( or the port you set in your GBPVR machine) to your GBPVR machine, and enable web admin from config.

So you try http://localhost:7647/gbpvr/guide.aspx from your PC and it works? Next you try http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:7647/gbpvr/guide.aspx where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address assigned to your PC? The IP address should be something like 192.168.1.100). That is the first step, and if it works we are in good shape.

Next we need to deal with the DDNS issue.

On the DDNS tab there should be a place to pick the service (DynDNS.org), blanks for your account and password, and a blank for the address you are assigning this router. It must be the same address that you picked and set up when you created your account at DynDNS.org. The router can only update an address you have already created at DynDNS.org.

Here's another thought. Does your router have a valid DNS entry on it's status page?

Also, you might try power cycling the router after you save. If you want to verify that the router is updating DynDNS.org, try setting the IP address for your host at DynDNS.org to some non-sense address like 192.168.13.254. When you cycle the power on the router, it should come up and update the address at DynDNS.org. Check to see the status of your host at DynDNS.org and verify that it has the same IP address as the status page of your router.

You probably won't be able to get there from your internal network via DynDNS you'll have to try from outside.

If you have a cable modem your IP probably only changes once in a blue moon if ever, you can just use your routers IPaddress:7647 to connect from the outside, no need for dyndns.

If I were doing the same thing I'd go with VPN. It's more secure. Once connected you could view the guide just like you were at home (http://192.168.1.xxx:7647/gbpvr/guide.aspx). As an added bonus you'd have access to any file shares on your network and you'd be able to surf the web privatly through your home connection. Secure VNC is another option with VPN. Basicly VPN securely connects you to your home network, like you were there... at home.

Just another option.

I am trying to accomplish the same thing as the orgignal poster, but I am a little more familiar with networking. I have allready set up and account with no-ip.com, that goes to my router....which then forwards the request to my gbpvr pc, on port 7647. My problem is that gbpvr does not just accept requests on this port, you have to tell it xxxxxxx/gbpvr/manage.aspx. there is no way in my router, or with no-ip.com, to specify this sub-directory...any help?
