What cable provider do you have? I have a dct2524 with Adelphia and I can't get it to change channels (from reading multiple websites I will have to call adelphia to see if they will allow this to be enabled). I can't get the built in MCE blaster functionality to work with gbpvr and haven't had time to setup HIP yet, but I like the idea of serial control over an IR blaster any day.

I'm not sure if your cable provisor will allow the enabling of the serial port.

When you do setup hip, you'll have great control over your cable box...

PM me if you'd like help with HIP. I also have the hip codes for the 2000/2500 which should work fine with the 2524

Right on. Thanks for the offer. When I get some time to set aside (the wife starts to get annoyed when I spend more time tinkering with all of my computers than with her hehe), I will play with HIP and if I have any questions, I will be sure to hit you up. Thanks again.

Don't know where you are, but we might be able to chat, or talk on the phone...

But it's always better to try on your own, so you can troubleshoot. You should check out the HIP guide that Rickulous wrote, and I contributed. (it's on he wiki)

From a documentation point of view I'd be interested in how a 'newbie' finds it...

I'm in Southern California. I would rather attempt it on my own so that way I fully understand how everything works, but I do appreciate the assistance offer. I will definitely shoot you a line if I do need any help. Thanks again.

My long distance gives me free North America, anytime, so that's a possibility.

I think so too that you should do it on your own...

Talk to you, if you need...

Yeah, I have vonage so I have free canada as well. Just not sure when I will have the time to sit down and play with it. June is a busy wedding month and I have 3 friends getting married so no weekends free and the wife doesn't like when I tinker too much when shes trying to watch tv. Plus with World Cup on, the damn thing is always recording haha which reminds me, england is about to play, gotta og load up the website to follow the play by play. I will let you know how it goes Frank. Thanks again!

LS2, Just thought I'd let you know... You're my new hero! I have a DCT2524 and just got a PVR150 with the intentions of making this computer a PVR and getting a MediaMVP at some point for my living room tv. The darn thing would NOT change channels though, but your mot changer works PERFECTLY with serial! THANK YOU!

*Big Thumbs Up*

Hollow,

What cable provider do you have? I have Adelphia and it wouldn't change the channels on my 2524 at all. Also, what firmware version do you have on your STB?

Brian,
I think your serial port is disabled, I belive the serial codes used should work for all DCT2xxx's and possibly the DCT5xxx's.
you could try calling adelphia and asking them about the serial port of the box, could say you have TIVO, since that can use serial, or be completely honest and say you are using a HTPC, and want to change the channels through serial. they may turn it on for you... or tell you to go away
