EPG messes up

Hi!

I have a problem with the EPG feature (or I have misunderstood how it works):
If I select show X in the TV Guide and selects Record type 'Record Season (all episodes in this timeslot, this channel) it records ALL episodes of show X ALL days, regardless when they are aired.
For example if I choose a show that starts 9pm on Tuesday (new episodes aired Tuesdays at 9pm) and do the above Record type selection, I get that show recorded each Tuesday, but also all reruns that are aired at 4pm and 5pm all other days... Is it supposed to work like this, or have I misunderstood everything...? [Image: rock.gif]

p.s.
It didn't work to register an account in this forum. Is there a limit to the number of users or something?

I too have the same problem. It happens when you import two XMLTV files containing one or more programs with two different time schedules.

I have been importing 7 days EPG schedule once a day, which means 6 days overlap and several double entries in the EPG becaus of reschedules from the TV stations.

I think the solution is to be solved in the XMLTV import module of GB-PVR. Imported EPG entries should overwrite overlapping EPG entries. If you already had programmed an recording, this shoud be updated with the new XMLTV import too.

I hope you understand my above description. Otherwise please tell me, and I will try to describe it in another way.

I look at it some time in the future. For now, your best bet is to change to importing the new single day listings each day (after an initial import to populate a full week).

Relating to this: the BBC listings are available for many days ahead through the RadioTimes XMLTV service. That may mean that especially movies are "To be announced". Sub explained to me that EPG data are stored based on the starting time. If a new TV programme with a different length and/or different name starts at that same time, the EPG item is not updated. I hope I phrase it correctly, because I do not have the exact message anymore.

I just discovered that for the next week or so most of the movies on BBC1 and BBC2 are listed as "To be announced", sometimes with the default length of 1 hour, instead of the real length of the movie. The XML file does contain the right data, but this is not written into the EPG.

I will try to purge BBC1 and BBC2 with Access, but hope there will be a solution soon.

My wife spotted this about half an hour ago when she went to record something. Quite a few of tonight's BBC1 and BBC2 slots had "To Be Announced" (I use the RT XMLTV guide as well).

The odd one was that the film ET was there but showed a much shorter time slot with the rest of the slot as a seperate block with "To be announced" in it. I could understand the whole slot being TBA but split like that is strange unless the XML file had a typo in it two weeks ago when today's listings were added.

I seem to remember the wiki has a list of command-line options for GB-PVR one of which was to empty the EPG. I suppose it might be possible to schedule a job to run just before the EPG is updated to ensure the whole thing gets pulled in each day. The only danger there would be if something was just about to start recording.

I also have the same problem, every episode, regardless of time, is being recorded. I have 2 TV cards.
One thing confuses me, Sub says that you should download a single day's listing only. I'm using ZAP2IT, it is configured to download updates each day (using the default installation parameters), it there someplace in the Config that I can tell it to download only a single day's listing to fix this problem? Or am I missing something?
TIA

Zap2it will only download a day at a time.

When you say you have the 'same problem', I suspect you're referring to kendrak24's post above which is on an entirely different subject to the rest of the discussion in this thread. None of my comments (or any of the other) seem to relate to his problem.

Sorry about the confusion. My problem is the same as Kendrak24's, i.e. "'Record Season (all episodes in this timeslot, this channel) it records ALL episodes of show X ALL days (on the same channel - if the same show is on a different channel, it does not record), regardless when they are aired."

Thanks

It should every episode of show X on the specified channel, if the start time is within +/- 2 hours of the original recording.

Sub, that seems a good suggestion. Will this work? Since loading the whole EPG on my system only takes 10 seconds, it seems feasible to have the whole EPG renewed every day, instead of just updating the entries. Do you plan such an option in the config?

As a fellow programmer, there may be a problem ahead. Since in your database you store programmes based on their startdate/time, and thus requested and performed recordings are also used based on this startdate/time, a bit more intelligence may be needed instead of just purging the database. Would you like me to devise some kind of algorithm?
