actually i figured it out by reading another post and a little stupidity. The blaster on works in output 2 and in HIP you have to activiate the profile. Would know why output 1 for the blaster does not work. I am using the hauppauge MCE remote and the gray beanbag.

The last major thing i need to figure out is how to control my set top box. i followed the HIP tutorial but all of my code lengths for my STB are different and I have no idea how long they should be. Thus I have not been able to even get one character to work on the STB. suggestions?? thanks...

remotecentral.com search for your STB. look for ccf file ( I think). You can import the codes into HIP from pretty much the same screen as where you receive the IR...

Se if that works. What STB is it, by pure fluke, I might have them...

Both my systems run XP Pro/SP2. Both use the same eHome IR drivers.

On one I have the Microsoft V2 remote & the black Microsoft 'beanbag'. In this link http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Hardware/MCERemotes
it's the one second from the left. It works fine, both receive and the IR blaster. I have GB-PVR set to MCE remote and to use the MCE 2005 blaster for channel changing.

On the other system I have the remote that's on the far right in the above link. It came bundled with a PVR500 and has the gray 'beanbag'. It's this http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Hardw...50#PVR1062 kit except that it came with a PVR500. I have it also set as an MCE remote and to use the MCE 2005 blaster, exactly the same as the other system. The remote works OK, i.e. it will control GB-PVR menus, etc. just fine. The blaster does not work...it just doesn't do anything. I've been trying it only from output 1...never thought to try the other output. I could also try switching them and see what happens.

Either remote works on either system, i.e. I can control GB-PVR with either one on either system, it's just the blaster that doesn't work.

I'd prefer not to run HIP if I don't have to.

I really haven't had a chance to work on this much yet but this thread caught my eye. I'll play with it some more when I have a chance, probably later this week, and post my findings (if any) back here.

Yeah I read on another thread that on the gray hauppauge beanbag that output too worked. When I tried using output 2 I get the red light to blink on the IR blaster but it wont transmit the signal to my STB. BTW my STB is a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2100. They have codes on remotecentral.com but only 1 person has the numbers programed and those codes are all different lengths. Ideas?

Yep, it appears to work on output 2. But not output 1. Pretty weird. I only need one output so that's cool but it's still weird. As stated before, I'm using XP Pro/SP2, the standard MS eHome IR driver, and setting the channel changer in GB-PVR to MCE 2005 IR Blaster. If it's plugged into output 2, it will work if the changer is set to Both or 2 but not if it's set to 1, regardless of which it's actually plugged into. I'd suspect a bad unit if others didn't have the same results. Oh well...

Try using the replacement drivers in the HIp tutorial. They worked for SubFree and he has the Hauppauge MCE Remote & Blaster as well.

I suspected a bad unit and took it back. Now it turns out to be something else, too suspicious.. But that's all right. I too, use the MCE remote V2 with the black beanbag. Works great

so how should i proceede in getting my happauge grey beanbag to transmit to my STB. I should be getting a new IR blaster from hauppauge in a day or two but i suspect that will not be the problem.

Follow the instructions from the hip guide.

http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Tips/HipGuide

within the guide there are instructions for installing the alternate driver

As I posted before (see above), the Hauppauge 'beanbag' that came bundled with my PVR500MCE worked OK with the standard XP eHome driver and native GB-PVR MCE 2005 IR blaster if I used blaster 2. If you need only one blaster and select the proper STB in the config or train it (as I did), it will likely work OK. I don't use HIP or the alternate driver. As always, YMMV...
