Quote:However, I am still getting the odd 0byte recordings. GBPVR thinks it has recorded OK, but the file is 0bytes.

Do you have any idea why this happens Sub ? Seems to be a long running problem in the forums ....
People can have zero byte recordings happen for a variety of reaons - signal locking problems at the time the recording starts, mux problems, device problems, driver problems...the problem is working out which was the cause of your specific problem. When GB-PVR thinks the recording has completed successfully, then none of these components have indicated there was a problem, but one of them obviously didnt do their job. This can be really hard to track down.

Yep - I appreciate that.. its very frustrating from a users point of view though. I've lost trust in the GBPVR setup now - anything important is having to go on the DVD recorder. Its a shame really... I was planning on getting more MVPs and phasing out the DVDR, but that will be difficult with this problem.

Yeah, I can imagine its a pain for users that have this problem. Most users dont have this problem though.

Will the next release allow this to be increased to 'infinite' chances?
No, not exactly, but there is something else that may help. There is some logic will try to re-lock the signal during the course of a recording if it a signal lock is lost, or never established in the first place. It is done at a configurable interval, but defaults to every thirty seconds.

gingerneils logs do indicate that that his device had not managed to lock a signal on those failed recordings. So its possible this might have helped him, but its also possible he would just have got a log full of a series of failed attempts to lock onto a channel.

Can these things be added in as a config option ? Maybe adding the option to try n times if a recording is too small?
I did a fair bit of testing last night, if I restart the recordingservice when a recording is ongoing but 0bytes, it kicks back in and the recording has started again fine every time... Also, if I cancel the recording and then watch the same channel on LiveTV, all is fine - the signal is not weak so it seems very strange that it cannot get a lock..

Annoying thing is that this just started to happen !

I'm using an HVR1300, anyone else have these problems and know how to improve things ?

gingerneil, do you want to test a pre-release that includes the feature I mentioned above to see if it helps you problem?

I'd be more than happy to....
Although changing to the more recent 2022 mux has meant this has only happened about 10% of the time in the last few days rather than about 80%. Hopefully the new feature will take this to 0%!

Set your logging level back to debug, then reproduce the problem and repost the logs and I'll take a look.
