Yes but this didn't help.

I have done a bit more digging. On the CD that came with the PVR500 was an app call AMCAP. Using this application I did some checks on the frequency tuned into for BBC 1 (Channel 26). I got the following result:

Medion Card - Perfect Picture and Audio

Video 551312500
Audio 517308500

PVR 500 - Snowy/Broken up picture good audio

Video 511250000
Audio 517246000

It seems that the 2 cards are using 2 different frequencies for the same channel:confused: .

With regards to the registry tweak that Sub suggested I don't seem to have a TS44-0 that I would have expected to see for UK Analogue transmissions. I'm thinking about putting in a second disk reinstalling to see if that resolves the issue. Thoughts/suggestions greatly received.

Use this to update your registry settings. I used this site http://tivoza.nanfo.com/wiki/index.php/RF_Setup to setup my PVR500. It's based on the South African broadcasting system but it should be easy to adapt for the UK by just changing the country code.

2BA16F0 is the frequency in HEX

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\TV System Services\TVAutoTune\TS27-0
"11"=dword:2BA16F0
"12"=dword:2BA16F0

Thanks. At work at the moment Sad so will try when I get home. Based on the following:

BBC1 - Ch 26 - 511250 KHz
BBC2 - Ch 33 - 567250 KHz
ITV - Ch 37 - 599250 KHz
C4 - Ch 23 - 487250 KHz
C5 - Ch30 - 543250 KHz

I get the following registry entries with the code changed to 44 (UK):

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\TV System Services\TVAutoTune\TS44-0]
"1"=dword:1E790E50
"2"=dword:21CF8C50
"3"=dword:23B7D450
"4"=dword:1D0AD850
"5"=dword:20615650

Fingers crossed this sorts it out.

Ok so the registry tweak didn't work. No change on the quality of the video. Going to see if I can install the card in a different PC to see if it works OK in that. If not then must be a hardware issue and will have to look at sending it back. Thanks to everyone for the help and advice.

OK, tried card in another PC (windows 2003 server standard) and got exactly the same result. I tried the registry tweak on that machine also and still the same. Suspect that the card is faulty now. Will contact Hauppauge Support tomorrow to see about returning the card for a replacement.

Thanks to all that provided help and assistance. The support on this forum, and what Sub provides is second to none and some of the big players could learn a thing or two.

I don't have access to my HTPC now to check my reg settings... but you should try copying the reg settings for TS44-0 to TS44-1 (since the PVR500 has 2 capture devices)

This may sound silly but make sure you haven't included the square brackets ']' in the registry setting.

Thanks. From the documents I read on the MSDN website it implied that TSxxx-0 was for antenna connections and TSxxx-1 was for Cable connections. Based on this I only used the TS44-0 reg key.

The text I posted I pasted into notepad and added

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

to the begining of the file. This was then saved with a .reg file extension and then imported/merged into the windows registry. I checked after with registry editor that it had imported correctly.

Spoken to Hauppauge Tech support today. Very helpful lady called Katherine who believes it to be a hardware fault based on all the things I have tried. They were also aware of and very complimentary of GBPVR. Big Grin

Just got to send an email back this evening with copy of invoice and they will sort out the RMA for me and ship me a new oneBig Grin
