I would love to swap to SQL Lite - do I need to install that separately then run the DB swap program, or does that install SQL Lite itself?

I still can't see anything with Live TV in GBPVR on the client (although I can watch it on the server using remote desktop sharing!) - do you have any ideas about that?

Finally, it's a bit off topic but the problem I described earlier (GBPVR just not starting) has happened again. I select "Start GBPVR" from the system tray, an egg timer appears, then goes away after 10 seconds. Looking in task manager, the GBPVR.exe process appears, then disappears. Any thoughts on that one?

Do you mean .MPG? Yes, .MPG files can be used in streaming mode.

All you need to do is run the included ChangeDatabase.exe utility.

It it looks like it going through the motions, it could just been remote desktop not showing the video (which is fairly normal). Hard to tell if this is the problem unless you're sitting in front of the machine.

Zip and attach the gbpvr.exe.log immediately after it happens and I'll take a look.

Apologies if this is a real newbie problem! I used GBPVR at home successfully, then decided we should try it at school to schedule recordings.

We set up a reasonable "server" to pilot the idea, and I've set up a single client as well. We run a 100Mbit (gigabit backbone) wired network.

The "server" works fine, records shows and plays them back, plays live TV etc, but I can't get any playback or live TV on the client. I think I have the main settings sorted as I can access the server from the client, see a list of what has been recorded and schedule new recordings (successfully), but I can't get live TV to work, nor can I watch the recorded shows.

Basically, I see a white blurry screen, which I can right-click out of back to the menu, so the program isn't actually crashing.

Any ideas?

Well I did have to allow the recording service to be let through the firewall on the server. After I did that connect. Yes the server is my mail tv watching machine. It records 3 shows a night with no problems and I can watch and record shows at the same time with no problem on it. But on the client I can do everything but watch live tv. Very strange. I have fiddled with every setting known to man.

I assume the server directories are properly shared. Can you play any of the recordings at the client side with Windows Media player? If not it might be a matter of assigning user rights.

If this does not help upload your logfiles (zipped both client and server) with your next post. This will help the specialists (I am not one of them)

I can play any recordings fine through the client. They work good and play very well. In file sharing mode that is. Bit file sharing or streaming mode does not work for live tv. And it is kind of weird because isn't it just playing the live tv buffer file? so it should be just like watching a recording right?

Hi djphatjive.

I'm not sure if this is good advice or not but I would look for hard drive of the server system. Live will uses both reading and witting from the hard drive where as playback will only use reading. Do you have any other hard drive intensive applications running.

The server is right beside my tv and has xp installed and gbpvr and nero. That is it. That is all it is used for and that is the only thing running. And we watch shows all the time from it 20 min after recording so we can miss all the commercials. So it can do it fine at the server.

Hey sub. I just noticed that I have ie7 beta 3 installed on my laptop witch is running the client. Could that be the cause of these problems? Also after installing this client on it the pc cpu will run at 100 percent when sitting at idle every now and then untill I start killing mspmspsv.exe and sometimes another item. I can't remember. Does the client use any of these. It is the only thing I have changed and it definatly started after I installed the client. My laptop was crazy hot too. So just a warning to anyone leaving your computer on with a client running. Any ideas?

I wouldnt think so. The only incompatibility I'm aware of with IE7B3 involves launching external processes from the recording service.

I dont know what mspmspv.exe is. Its not something used by GB-PVR.

Most people's client problems relate to one of these:
1) firewall getting in the way on either client or server or both
2) GBPVR Parser not being found (run ReRegisterFilters.bat to fix)
3) trying to use Streaming mode with DVR-MS recordings.

I dont know what mspmspSv.exe is. Its not something used by GB-PVR.

mspmspsv.exe is a process which normally comes with a specific update of Windows Media player. It allows for the SDMI protocol (Secure Digital Music Initiative) to be used during dealing with music media. This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling it is down to user preference.
