I was wondering whether GB-PVR could be patched so that it tunes in to a channel number upon startup. This would save all of us a lot of hacks. Should I post this in the suggested features?

Has anyone tried contacting Hauppauge on this? If not, I'll start bothering them.

Yes.

Are you sure it is drivers' related? The reason I ask is that I had sound issues a while back. Not the same concern but it was rectified with a different MPEG decoders.

Here is the relevant thread.

Now the only issue I have is I have to manually use WinTV after a reboot or I don't have any sound with GBPVR. SHS has just posted a new drivers' CD which I'll try when I get some spare time.

I'm pretty sure it is not an MPEG decoder problem. I have tried various audio decoders (default MPEG, nVidia, intervideo) but all have the same problem. Event playing a recording outside GB-PVR has the problem. There simply is not any audio in the file. My bet is it is either a tuning or an initialisation problem (or both ;-) in the Hauppauge driver.

I've already tried the new CD from SHS last week. No success for me. Let me know if it works for you.

That's why I have a task scheduled to fire up WinTV for 1 minute after system reboot so I don't forget it and have the miss yelling at me because her recordings are all "screwed" Wink
I know it's not a real solution but a workaround..... well works for me!Wink

What's the command line for your WAF event?

euhhh...... delete all recordings - are you sure yes/no........Big Grin

or do you mean like system tools-> scheduled task -> add scheduled task -> WinTV2000 -> and have it start at system boot and finish.
Double click the event and under the settings tab choose 1 minute for max runtime.

Thanks... I didn't realize you could kill a scheduled task after a certain period. I thought there were some command line options to wintv2000. I vageuely remember reading something about that on the Hauppauge forum.

I looked it up. It is something like

wintv2k.exe -c<channel> -nss -nc -ntod -qdef -startr:dummy.mpg -limit:60 -mute

Options:

-c<channel> channel number to record
-nss - no splash screen
-nc - no cool GUI mode (don't know what's so cool about it Wink )
-ntod - no tip of the day (who wants one anyhow)
-qdef - default quality
-startr:... - start recording to file
-limit:60 - one minute
-mute - mute the application

See also http://www.hauppauge.com/html/command_line_options.htm

I haven't figured out yet how to initialise both cards. Tonight I'll try whether it is possible to run two instances of wintv2k, recording different channels.

hmmm interesting.....didn't like the task scheduler anyway.

EDIT: I don't think you can kill the WinTV app with this, and you don't have to record anything, just fire it up for 10 seconds and it's initialized properly.
Although the -notd ans -nss are useable
