wow this thread is freaky, I too starting to try to set this up.

Am currently running file share mode fine.
But just can't get it to stream.

I have no firewalls, running on wired lan.
I can see the server get the request to stream, but the client gives up and cuts back to the main menu.

Do you have those screen shots so I can confirm my config.

Thanks

Unfortunately, no - I'm still at work, but will do them when I get home (if I have time before football training - otherwise it'll be even later)

When you say streaming, do you mean playing a file - or choosing the streaming mode in config?

You may want to try again and post the logs and someone may be able to spot the error. I guess you need logs from both client and sever - but someone else more knowledgeable will have to confirm that.

What port does the request for the stream arrive on? (and how do you see the streaming request arrive at the server?)

Thanks

Thanks for the guide - as soon as I can find a tv card that'll work in the UK and Spain, and is compatible with GBPVR I'll give it a whirl!

OK, I have updated the ports based on Ted's advice, and put my screenshots in - sorry if they are not a lot of help.

As I say, it's trial and error to get the best quality etc.
If you get "cannot communicate withrecording service" then your ports are not open correctly. Also, if you want you can "change scope" on the windows firewall to only allow your subnet to access these ports - bit safer than having it open to the entire interwebby.

I've attached the word doc for proofing, but I think I need a guide showing me how to edit / add to the Wiki.

I've sent a message to bladder_se to get some help, or maybe a login with some privileges (everything I try say mine are insufficient)

Thanks

right cheers for the screenshots.
it confirms my config is correct.

am running xp with domain sharing so file permissions is not a problem
and yes the firewall is turned well off. Smile

Have attached logs showing it trying to open the livetv buffer file, but it just fails.

Any ideas??

Thanks

I'm pretty sure the DVR-MS is doing some tricky stuff with shared memory (passing information about real file length etc), which only works locally on the machine, making it not possible to play the DVR-MS file from another machine while still recording.

Assuming you're using DVB (not ATSC), then you'd probably need to look at switching to Cyberlink or ATI mux to get this working.
