I see that the plugin and skin handing code are being enhanced now. Should I wait until it is out before putting together the enhanced weather plugin?

Also, for things like weather that get info from a external source, would you suggest putting up a 'loading' screen as the data gets collected? Would this cause any problems in the existing/new plugin architecture?

No point in waiting really, its worth making a start and if you find things you need I can add them to the changes. I promise not to break things too much [Image: tounge.gif]

Yes, I think a loading screen would be a good idea.

I am really interested in jumping on board with you guys now that this semester is FINALLY over. The only problem I have is that all my coding has been done in C++ and am not sure how to migrate over to C#, like what type of project to start that will create the desired .dll file. Is it at all possible for you to create a project in VS with the code mentioned above already in it? So this way all we/I have to do is fill in the blank sort of speak.

I am really interested in creating a resolve recording collision plugin this is something I feel is sorely needed and would like to try and help rather than just sit and complain.

Thanks,
Rock

Rock:

The weather plugin was my first C# project so don't feel bad.  There is a sample weather plugin that gets installed with gbprv that contains the project etc.  That's what I started with.  The general framework is also there.

There is also source on the plugins page for the shutdown plugin that uses a somewhat different design.

And last but not least, in the next day or two I should have the source for my weather plugin available for download here as well.

You have plenty of examples [Image: smile.gif]

And if all else fails, with .NET you can code in C++ as well and still play with the C# components.  So feel free to do that as well!

I'm not sure that resolving conflicts thing will be able to be done as a plugin, sub can answer that better than I. But there is always a email viewer plugin to be done. I was going to do that but have changed my mind I think into doing commercial skip (heaven help me Wink ). Or, we need a web interface too. Search for posts on that to get an idea of where we are headed on that.

LOTS to choose from [Image: smile.gif]

In the meantime, you can get the original weather plugin source from the plugins page http://www.gbpvr.com/plugins.html

Just for a little more encouragement:

Like CodeMonkey, I'd never used C# and I've developed a plugin in C# too. if you know C++ then C# is really easy to get along with, I think that for working with .Net it is better than C++.

You need to create a class library project, this will be compiled as a dll. I picked up the example weather plugin code and ripped of most of that.

Jump in there and have a go! [Image: smile.gif]

I am having a problem openning the shutdown .sln file. It is telling me that I it is not a valid VS Solution. The only reason I can account this for is that I am running VS .net 2002 Student. Could this be the problem? And is there any updates for it because I can't find any on microsoft.com.

And I did also try the get updates in the help menu and it gives me some error about my internet connection not being setup correctly but I just think that is a bug in my release.

Thanks.

You can try opening up just the csproj file and have it create a .sln. But I suspect you will need to upgrade to 2003.
