toomanyhandles Wrote:Have you tried watching a show that was recording and the comskip txt file was also being generated in parallel? What happens when you start to catch up due to commercial skipping? For example, you enter a skip block that's not done yet (no end to it?)

Works fine with me, it happened to me a few days ago, first I didn't realise what was happening: it didn't skip to the end of the commercials:mad: , then I realised it had caught up the recording to the "end". (is that good english?:o ). I've read people having problems with going to the end of a recording in progress, but I think that could be cured with a different video/audio-renderer/decoder.
Edit: I have the livetv-option in comskip.ini enabled, making it possible to auto-skip while recording. Without it, I guess the txt.file is written after comskip is finished.

.

Thanks for the reply; BTW which renderer are you using that seemed to do OK "hitting the end" as it were?

I run it in parallel also and it seems to work better than running at the end.
Before I ran in parallel I used the following settings in comkip.ini. I pulled them out since it seems to work fine without them in parallel mode. I don't use the livetv option.
play_nice_start=700
play_nice_end=2300

Playnice tells Comskip to limit the disk access, so other processes like the recording won't have to compete so much for disk access.

live_tv=0 ; set to 1 if you use parallelprocessing and need the output while recording

This means, If you are running in parallel and want to watch the show ALMOST as it records, you must have it in Live_TV=1

Erik has said that this uses a bit more CPU, But I have notice with the newest builds that it works well.

I have two cards, and often concurrent recordings, and comskip sessions in parallel. I would imagine that my system could handle four sessions, but I wouldn't even try to also watch TV locally. (Watching with MVP works OK)

With the amount of disk activity with 4 cards recording AND 4 comskip sessions. I wouldn't even breathe....

Pastros suggestion

play_nice_start=700
play_nice_end=2300

referrs to times. 700 = 7:00am, 2300 = 11:00pm

So in essence the commands tell comskip to play nice between 7am and 11pm.

You could try 0000 to 2359 (I think we determined that 2400 wouldn't work)

Also you can have the text anywhere in the comskip.ini...

Thanks for the replies on this topic. A while back I did switch to run comskip real-time along with the recording. It does work well, I don't notice problems and if I've given the program 15 minutes to get going before I start playing, the comskip file is useful. Until I catch up Smile

However, I still have a problem at the end of the recording. Even though I'm running comskip during the recording, when the recording is done there is a large amount of activity- it's like the recording is being parsed a second time. Anyway I have problems at this point using the remote etc. So if I'm 20 minutes behind the actual end-of-program, I can't use the remote in the last 20 min, response to the remote is so lagged that it isn't useful.

Is this second pass to be expected/ is it really what is going on? I'll double-check the live-tv toggle, that should help if I've updated comskip and forgotten to make that edit in the config.

You could check in task manager what is causing the activity when the recording is finished. Afaik on my system comskip finishes ~the same time as the recording finishes.
You are not using comskip through parallelprocessing.bat and have comskip checked in config-processing as well?
