dual tuners, yes, both usable at same time, very nice picture quality...
QAM support with beta drivers, which seem pretty stable..haven't played with the qam stuff much yet tho...

and while playing with decoders, i setup the intervideo codec with vmr9 and checked the "show cc's" in config and yes! it shows closed captions! Big Grin
even on recordings...so finally a decent closed caption option...

what i dont quite understand is why _only_ the intervideo codec is supported to show/record CC. i built a graph that would overlay CC with my ATI codecs very nicely. since i dont have the intervideo codec i'm just wondering what the difference is? who do i need to provide the graph to so they can enable this option with ATI? or even better where can i download the intervideo codec? Cool

Sub only supports the interview codec for closed captions. There are other codecs that support closed captions but sub hasn't built in support for them. Doesn't the hauppauge cards come with the interview codec?
I don't like using captions this way since you can't toggle them on/off. I use the mpg2srt way.

does the srt view method work with other decoders?
as far as i know, they are always recorded, if they can at all...
would be nice to be able to turn on-off...nice fix.Smile

Yes it works with all decoders. It postprocesses the mpeg file and writes a captions file. The srt viewer which is built in to GBPVR, picks up the captions during playback.
The ability to turn captions on/off is why I use the srt method. The drawbacks are:

#1 You lose the positional info
#2 The captions don't smoothly scroll
#3 Only two lines (once in a great while there can be three) can be displayed on the current version (probably will be fixed in the upcoming release)

Neither method allows live TV captions.

At any rate the SRT viewer is a config option under misc if I remember correctly. You need to download mpg2srt and run it in your postprocessing.bat. (mpg2srt %1)
Get mpg2srt here:
http://www.htpctools.com/mpg2srt/

Thanks! I enabled it in config, added mpg2srt %1 to beginning of postprocessing, put the exe in gbpvr. I dragged several Viva Pinata episodes to the batch file and it ran on them and created srt files. I then played one episode from gbpvr console, and the CC showed.

I am trying via MVP now!
3x MVPs (not used anymore)
XBMC
Hauppauge 150 via SVideo
Comcast Digital Cable
Motorola HD Cable box channel changed via Firewire
Vista Home Premium with RDP hack

There is one last thing and I'm still not sure where exactly the culprit is. I've noticed a problem with the captions not lining up correctly with the show and getting progressively worse the further in the show you go. It appears that the timelines are running at 30hz instead of 29.97. It would be easy to write a program to fix this (I wrote one to fix the three line issue), but no one else seems to see this. Let me know how yours lines up.

Have you checked with the author of mpg2srt about a possible bug in his program ?

He thought it was in gbpvr, but ccextract (another exactrator) doesn't show it, so I think it is probably in mpg2srt. I wanted to use ccextract, but it leaves blank lines in the output occasionally, and the srt viewer doesn't like that.
I'm still hoping that sub builds in closed caption support someday and this becomes a non-issue.

I'm looking forward to sub's excellent support and programming but being hard of hearing I depend heavily on CC. So whatever can happen sooner the happier I'd be Smile

Sorry but I'll have to be honest, as I've said several times in the past... US-style CC aren't even on my radar. I have no easy way to test or develop features that use this info, since I dont receive these types of broadcasts here.
