Oh well, thanks anyway. I was gonna see if you could come around to my place with your smartcard, to do a quick test to see if we could get digital Sky recordings working in GB-PVR (using DVB-S card + multidec plugin).
Any other MySky users out there based in Wellington?

1080p are you sure its not 1080i
what tv do you have
and if your only trying to record from svideo then its a long way off the quality you are wanting
funny you say you brought a dvd recorder to up scale thats why i went the htpc way you can up scale and it has dvi which is the digital part of hdmi anyway
stustunz Wrote:What are you wanting to capture with this captrue card you want
Mysky ?
dvdrecorder out ?
Because you would be better using component capture if the my sky outputs that which from there site it seems to say it does
pity it doesnt have hdmi
can you get data from the usb on it ?
i have a pvr150 and a pvr 500 and i reckon there has to be a better card out there for video capture the picture isnt as sharp as it could be
its just that they are the best cards for analog tv capture
as to which card i have no idea but im interested aswell so if you do find/get a card let me know which one and how it went
It's definitely 1080p (It's Panasonic's New Model out - EH57). It will output what the TV can handle - in my case - 1080i, but in time a new TV will come along
You mention component capture - but I haven't seen anything that can capture with component connections? Any recommendations?
My current captures on the DVD recorder using only S-video (once re-edited together and saved in DVD-video format on the server) look as good as modern DVD's. I was really impressed. I don't have analogue TV in the house - it's all via Sky's Satellite, so the picQ is already excellent.
I brought a PVR-150 today. It will be a couple of days before I can play because I'm building a new puter to put it in and I'm not quite there yet. A ATI 550 card was mentioned further back. I'll try one of those if I don't get good results. Time is going to tell. If I can't get good quality, I'll put up with the DVD-rec hassles as there is very little today that is worth keeping I'm really only interested in capturing B grade type movies - one's that would be worth another watch in time, but aren't good enough to spend $ on the DVD. Anything I really like I buy on DVD.
BTW...Sky does output component via a "scart to component" connection. In "setup" you tell it to output component.

Sorry I don't have one or know anybody in Wgtn with MySky.. If you could get this going however you would be a legend and extremely popular!

Unfortunately, it definitely wont work with the more common older sky cards, which are of different lineage to the smartcards used by all the bright satellite guys in the UK/Europe. (ie, having to own mysky before you can do this sort of defeats the purpose)
