Thanks for the info.

Really dont want a PC in the bedroom have 12 PCs allready wife will string me up if I try to get one in the bedroom :-)

Sky is changing, any ideas when? Is it to mixed H & V polarity?
Second LNB and additional cable may well be the best option but dont want to spend money needlessly :-)

Cheers

Hey, thanks for the quick and detailed responses guys.

It appears that the HVR-3000 card's analogue is not hw mpeg, so
I think I'll start with the Hauppage PVR-150 card, unless anyone can recommend a better alternative?

I'll probably get a HVR-3000 card as well later though as it will give me DVB-S and DVB-T (and ignoring the analogue) for a cheaper price than a single NOVA card.

I'm also going to get a wireless MediaMVP as it also includes an ethernet port if the wireless doesn't work out so well and it's even slightly cheaper than the standard wired model. I really want the remote display to have PVR functionality so this seems the way to go.

My main questions before I start are:
1. Is the WinTV Nova S Plus the best option for freeview?
yes there is also the hrv3000 tripple which will give you tesrestrial when it comes although i think in auckland if you can see the sky tower you already have some access(i could be wrong but i read something like that)

2. I'm assuming from reading these forums I can install 2 of these?
you can have as many as you have pci slots

3. Can I use the old card with software encoding for analogue? (Assuming I'll need analogue for Prime)
No not recomneded there are ways but i wouldnt waste my time

4. If not which is the best basic analogue card? (WinTV PVR150?)
pvr 150 is the most popular dunno if its the best they seem to like a really good signal then the picture improves alot

5. What advantage if any is there in buying a multi-tuner card?
you save pci slot as new machines on have like 3

6. I see that mvp's can be driven, but is there a way to use the Mediagate MG-350hd as it has wireless plus internal hard drive?
hauppauge mvp is well supported by gbpvr the other is not from my understanding

FWIW

I have 4 Nova-S cards running. Recording TV1 and Tv2 is no problem. However when you include TV3 in the mix becuase it has a peak bit rate of 15MBit all four tuners recording with either 1 or 2 on TV3 (for back to back programmes) leads to significant framing errors etc in the mpeg recorded streams (I use DVR-ms). I specifically upgraded to a new Asus Commando motherboard with 1033M FSB to try and relieve this, and while it did to some extent still not perfect. Consequently I shifted TV3 recordings to another computer to get around this problem. This problem never occurred when I was using four Hauppauge 150s and setting the bit rate myself. Further research into this is ongoing

Hi Stu

Thanks for that. I agree that it could be but since I have shifted the TV3 recordings to another machine everything's okay. And that is after adding another splitter in to feed the two cards in that box. I am running off an old IHUG 90cm dish with a 20db in line amp, roughly 15m of RG6 and then splitting to the 6 tuner cards so apart from rain fade I should have plenty.

Cheers

I'm just trying to setup a Hauppauge HVR-4000

When I do a scan of Optus D1 (NZ FTA) I get a signal strength of 0 on 12483H and good signal on 12456H and the channels it scans are:
SKY1, Juice TV, Discovery, E!, Maori TV, SM Greats, Sky Sports 3, KTV and Shine. All of them are listed as being on 12456H.

Looking at Lyngsat, these shouldn't be on that transponder. They should be on the transponder at 12608H

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

12483H and 12456H are the two freeview transponders.

Zip and attach the logs and I'll see if I can see anything.

What are your LNB settings set to? Are you using one of the Sky dual LNBs?
