can you see what your voltages are at in the bios with each diferent power supply?
there are few reasons why pluging something else will help
1 it drops power going to the card meaning the card is probably overheating (is the card hot)
2 you have a connection problem and doing this some how completes the circuit getting rid of the stray voltage or grounds it
3 you are geting spikes in your power so plugging something else lessons the spike
4 the new power supply has a bad regulator (could be high or low or not true dc bad filtering)

are you using a ups or any filtering on power supply?

Hi guys

I don't have any equipment to look at the power lines sadly.

I had a blue screen with the old power supply and the CD-Drive plugged in last night, so I can confirm that both PSUs are blue screening, what changes is the frequency of the crashes.

I don't think it is an overheating problem, the card doesn't seem to be unusually hot.

I don't have a UPS, the PC is plugged into a six way adapter with surge protection.

The error is "Driver_IRQL_less_than_or_equal", and there's a reference to USBEHCI.SYS.

Yes, I've tried it in every slot available. I've also tried disabling unused components in the bios. I'm convinced it's not an IRQ issue, and this is supported by the experience of others in the hauppauge thread.

No, I've not tried that. I could set chkdisk to run tonight. Not convinced that's the problem though, as that wouldn't explain why changing PSU has such a dramatic effect on the regularity of the blue screens.
